it was a guarantee that kuzmenko would fall-off this year - he was never going to shoot at the highest s% in nhl history for a second time, and it felt unlikely that he was really going to improve his shot volume while also improving his defensive play. we're lucky that boeser has picked it up, but the wing is still an issue imo - we need another high end winger to add for when boeser inevitably cools down and isn't leading the league in goals.
we started the year with kuz as the #1W, and boeser as a low-end #2W, likely better suited as a #3/4, and mikheyev as an average #3W, and beauvillier/garland as a below average / average #4/5W.
that's now become - boeser as an above average #1W, kuz as the #2W but playing like a #3/4, mikheyev, beauv and garland essentially as expected, with pdg emerging as the #4W to push others down, and great fill-in performances from joshua, lafferty, and hog. it's less pressing than the need to upgrade on d, but i think we could still use another true #2/3W option, while getting rid of an excess one like beauv or garland - and that's with boeser staying around this level *and* kuzmenko bouncing back.
unless they think guys like bains or lekk can back fill those roles as early as next year (or hog can take another few steps to become a 2/3W), i wouldn't touch either of boeser or kuz right now.
