If the Canucks can get another center, the lineup shakes down really nicely.

Lotto Line
Kuzmenko-[new center]-Mikheyev
Joshua-Suter-Garland
Hoglander-Blueger-Lafferty

With PDG ready to step in the moment anyone starts slacking off.

You can also swap Hoglander with Mikheyev and have one sheltered minutes offensive line, and 3 lines you're comfortable matching up against anybody.

Guys I'd look at: Kent Johnson, Morgan Frost, Alex Wennberg, Dawson Mercer...there may be other names out there too...
We can’t afford Kent Johnson.

PDG needs to be in the bottom 6 and if Hog keeps playing the way he is, he needs to start moving up the lineup.

Aman, Bluger, Lafferty, Suter all play Center, this is the best Center depth I can recall is having for some time. As for the top two lines not having Miller and Pettersson as the centre’s, we just just don’t have the cap space and we would need one heck of a player to move them out of position.

hoglander is succeeding where he is playing and who he is playing with. is it reasonable to expect positive results will continue if his deployment and linemates continue?

THIS is developing a player in my opinion - not putting him on a top line cause of a few good games and then what, yo yo back down? he is role player, will always be a role player, but with potential to be an excellent role player. let's get him settled into a role :)

how about we just rename Hoglander on the third line the Bottom Sick and call it a day

Miller's numbers are a mirage, he's continually losing the territorial battle and is on a huge PDO bender. Tocchet himself knows this and has re-united the Lotto line periodically in high-leverage situations.

Johnson a snowflake but with the bottom 6 the way it is, they can afford to have a sheltered scoring line. And if Johnson breaks out offensively, that's something that can meaningfully elevate this team to contender status.

like a lot of power forwards, miller is a volatile lethal weapon who does not constantly push play. he's been full value for his points this year, and for the past several years for that matter.

i would not get hung up on line combos or top 6 or bottom 6 roles.

i think tochett's intention is to make them all interchangeable two way middle six players except pettersson, miller and maybe boeser. kuzmenko is being coaxed into playing a two way game right now.

We've all heard the other rumours on the team "not being entirely sold on Pettersson", so it's pretty likely a gap in negotiated salary. It makes you wonder just how much money is on Pettersson's mind.

The season has gone relatively well to date, but always thought it would come down to post-season success, if they can have any, that would actually sway him in a positive direction on taking slightly less cash.

But agreed, Pettersson really has no reason to sign anything unless they blow the doors off, which probably means paying him near the top of the league. I doubt the team would have an issue going even $12M AAV, so it's not a terrible guess to assume it might be well north of there at the moment.
It’s a heavily rumoured number. I think he wants bank for sure, and I consider $12m bank. I think the team is cautious, because if you’re wrong on a contract like that, you’re in a a lot of trouble. Look at Calgary with Hubs. I mean that is an disastrous contract the way he is playing.

Not directly related to the Canucks but interesting.

“Now they’re in a different position than when he got there and you have to be sure that you’re not blindly attached to draft picks or prospects because at certain times you have to use all the assets at your disposal,” Doug Armstrong said. “Sometimes they’re future draft picks and sometimes they’re recently drafted players that you use to get better. That’s an exciting phase for Bill because he’ll get the chance to do something different. The rewards are very immediate with that. You trade for a player, you sign a player or you play the free-agent market, and that result is not four or five years away. It’s four or five hours away.”

Bill Armstrong is actively engaged in discussions to add those sorts of pieces. He is actively engaged in talks that could ship existing prospects or draft picks out the door in exchange for existing NHL players. And if you don’t believe he is willing to pull the trigger, you need look no further than Durzi, whom the Coyotes pro scouting staff identified as a piece that could grow with the club’s core.

Happy with Hronek's play, but Durzi was definitely a name brought up as an alternative for those who didn't want to give up a 1st. Nice move by the Coyotes.

Is it time to whisper the moves that may help both teams:

Jack Hughes
Luke Hughes
Simon Nemec
Akira Schmid

for

Elias Pettersson
Thatcher Demko
Mark Friedman

plus Hoglander or Garland or some other derivative to balance cap space, though NJD has a bit of space at the moment.

Too soon?

New Jersey says no.

At this point Jack Hughes has more value than Petey strictly because of contracts.

Goalies never return a ton of value, and I doubt Demko is returning either L. Hughes or Nemec, let alone both. Schmidt and Friedman have negligible value.

Overall, this is way off. Canucks would need to add way more.

New Jersey blocks our number. Hughes has one of the best co tracts in the league.

Never too soon for a good laugh! :D

More like trade Quinn and Boeser/Garland to NJD for
Hischier
McCleod
Mercer
Siegenthaler
Bahl

I think Sanhiem and Tanev are the 2 players I would target. Tanev in UFA this summer and Sanhiem as a core piece of the D core. It leaves our backend kind of soft but I can't think of any physically impossing players that would be available.

Ideally we would be able to add a Shea Weber type but those type of players are unicorns

Sanheim should have been acquired in the offseason when Philly was going to pay to get rid of him.

Yep, there was a market inefficiency for a 2-3 month period and now it has closed completely. Probably had a chance to dump one of our inefficient contracts (with less term/$$) in a swap too by assuming the long term contract of Sanheim.

Oh well.
