It can.
I get that management has biases. I have a hard time believing it in this case if Woo is playing top minutes in Abbotsford and McWard is on the third pairing. Then what’s the reason to call-up McWard over Woo who has definitely earned an NHL shot with his play the past two years? Wouldn’t be the first management group that prioritized their pickups.

To me, mgmt has already made their mind up about calls up regardless of play.
Some guys (Bains, Pod, etc) seem to have already been determined by mgmt to spend the whole year developing in the AHL and would only be bumped in an absolute pinch.
Others, who aren’t necessarily deserving, are the regular call ups.
It what it is.
I let him go if someone gives that much up via the offer sheet, those first will likely be good as they will have $15m in cap tied into Pettersson. It’s a gamble I take and I let him walk.If a team threatens/tells the Canucks they are going to offer 15+ million the Canucks have to match to keep him. That could be a 2 year contract. The Canucks could not match that so they might be forced into making a trade instead.
The cost would be four 1rst round picks. 24 teams have the available picks, that is 24 teams that could do an offer sheet including some that the picks would be in the mid 20's and fairly useless for immediate replacement of him.
It would be a smart move for a team for a player of his calibre. Petey would be around for 7 years more than enough time to refill the prospect pool.
But there is the "Unwritten Rule". Teams don't poach players.
The last time this happened was Burke and Boston. Burke told them they were going to offer sheet Kessel so Boston worked out a trade instead and they got Sequin. But Burke forced the trade with the threat of the offer sheet.
The Canucks could not match a 2 year offer sheet without destroying the team. This type offer, 2 yrs at maximum allowed would be a real smart and cut throat move. Even if the Canucks matched the very acceptance of the offer sheet would ruin any trade value when the contract ends.
I feel like you’re just finding something to fret about at this point, and your digging really deep to find it.You think Vancouver is closer than Buffalo or Columbus?
The Canucks have this year then the OEL cap hits happen.
The defence is still a mess.
In three years Buffalo and Columbus will be miles ahead especially if EP goes to one of those teams.
Common sense? Okay who is on the team in 3 years? The Canucks?
How many players are under 25 regulars playing on the team?
Pettersson has been in the system for 8 years and never had a winning season. Even this great start can be wiped out if Hughes or Demko get hurt. They just don't have the depth. Whereas Buffalo and Columbus have players that are improving every year for the next 3 to 5 years.
I do think the Canucks got a good enough start to make the show but they have been very lucky with outrageous scoring percentages.
Then I guess this has to be Drance question for Tocchet and others in management. Interested to see how they respond.I’ve watched 14 of the 15 Abbotsford games this season.
Woo is probably playing 23 minutes/game on the top pairing with Wolanin and doing well. Easily the 2nd best defender after Wolanin and has continued as the 1D with Wolanin out the past couple games.
McWard has been on the 3rd pairing with Hirose playing maybe 16-17 minutes and has been mostly iffy.
2nd pairing is Irwin-Johansson playing probably 19 minutes.
Koky hasn’t been great at allOh I don't know about that,
Montreal offer sheet Aho and Carolina matches and gets a bargain for Aho's contract.
Carolina offer sheet's Montreal and gets Koky at a bargain rate, gives up pretty much nothing and makes the playoffs every year after.
Enemy or rivalry?
A lot of time? Not anymore than a regular contract.
Meteor hitting EP's car is better odds than the odds of no Canadian team not winning the cup in 30 years.
one year the Canucks might be able to deal with 7 years would have to be 15 mil a year or more because the cap will be going up 20+ million over the next 7 years. If EP signs for 2 years then he can sign for 8 with the new team if that's what they want to do.
Even without the offer sheet idea I don't think EP signs for more than 3 years if that long no matter the amount. As I posted earlier EP, if he is willing to give Allvin more of a chance, he might sign for less for a short term. But if he was inclined to that he would be signing now so Allvin etal can get to work filling holes and planning ahead.
maybe they think woo brings what juulsen brings only less.Yeah but why? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense gvien the style Woo plays and the reports that he is above McWard on the Abbotsford roster. I can't believe it's just because Woo was picked by Benning and McWard by current management. Can it?
Im in the bath and i wont !I’m bathing my kids. Someone make a thread!
He wanted to play tonightsigned for less than his qualifying offer for some reason. weird
We already have cap challenges why do we want a $8.7m 50 point playerKuzmenko and Garland for Laine?
Possibly. But then the obvious question is what does McWard bring over Juulsen?maybe they think woo brings what juulsen brings only less.
Considering McWard isn’t even playing maybe it was simply a recall to have an extra body and they decided to go with the guy that the coaching staff is more familiar with if they have to throw in last minute rather than a guy like Woo who they’d probably want to have get in a few practices first before being potentially thrown into a game.Possibly. Yeah, it’s how it goes. But it’ll cost them if they aren’t playing their best options.
