There absolutely will not be a better NCAA UFA than a guy blowing up the KHL.
He’s not the type of player we should be targeting. Unless you’re a high end talent like Kaprizov, Panarin, whatever with multiple seasons of producing in the KHL, there just isn’t a fit here for skilled guys with massive defencies who’ve bounced around multiple leagues. He turns 25, and while that might be still on the youngish side, older guys who come from the KHL are more or less what they are. Especially those who’ve played in NA for majority of their careers and end up in the KHL because they’ve fizzled out here.

So my point is that there are a lot more intriguing college guys who are younger that obviously aren’t a final product yet but that you can develop and mold and hope they don’t just become some older discarded prospect that’s somehow found a way to be more productive in a white knuckle league.

I feel Tom Wilson is very overrated.
Tom Wilson was a perfect top 6 winger that could do it all.

Thing is...the amount of physicality he takes and dishes out has taken it's toll. He's either getting hurt nowadays or playing hurt and I imagine is on borrowed time (ala Ferland).

His contract is ridiculous. 6.5mil till 2030-2031. Yikes.

According to Dhalwal, the Canucks have had an interest in Jordan Greenaway since his days in Minny. And now that he's in Buffalo, a team that looks to be out of the playoffs for yeat another year, I wonder if they circle back on him?

He's the kind or big, hard-charging forward that every team needs for a long playoff run. The only downside is his cap-hit, $3m for this season and next. But maybe they can unload a contract or two or have the Sabres retain some salary.

Either way, he'd be a good fit.

If they ever do trade Pettersson, I’d tried to target McTavish

The irony is that Rutherford basically dismantled his Pittsburgh championship roster to become more tough to counter Tom Wilson and his antics.

I thought this at the time he was acquired, when people were talking about his contract wants in Calgary, and I wish so badly now that I had posted about it because I still think we might potentially see this happen and none of you would ever hear the end of it.
I think we may look back at the Zadorov trade as the Canucks realizing how thin they were on defense without Soucy and not wanting to risk derailing their good-times vibes because of a depleted roster. He was never their targeted upgrade. He was just a stopgap.

Except he is invisible half of the time but other than that, sure go fill your boots.

Lol it’s a comparable pile of garbage we sent to Calgary for Lindholm - who plays a premium position as a center instead of winger

There is not a single enticing piece in that package for Pittsburgh. Woo and Raty are decent prospects but not at all exciting. Mikheyov is a cap dump and nothing more. Which leaves a protected 1st. All while wanting them to retain salary.

Any deal involving Guentzel would include one of Lekkerimaki or Willander, which is something we wouldn't do.

There's not much doubt about it.....the rest of the NHL was gob-smacked by the Canucks audacious move to acquire Lindholm, who was the biggest trade chip on the market. It was almost given that he was going to team in the East like Boston, the Rangers or Philly.

The rest of the league was reportedly shocked by what the Canucks gave up. But when you really break it down, they really didn't surrender all that much. Two 'B' level prospects; a pick probably late in the first round and a conditional fourth rounder; and Kuzmenko who was on his last legs with Tocchet.

And miraculously, after the smoke cleared, they actually came out of it more cap room than they had going in. So they're back in the game as the TDL approaches.

You've got to love this Canucks tandem of Rutherford and Allvin. They're 'riverboat gamblers' but it's been a long time since a Canuck front office had the rest of the league in this kind of tizzy.
