I’m going to speculate that where there is smoke—there is fire.

Vancouver is more than prepared to flip Zadorov to another contender at the deadline, and use that cap space and returned asset to sweeten the deal for a bigger upgrade to their defense that they are seeking.
That trade rumour got completely shut down by Rutherford on Donny and Dhali ('did you guys make up that rumour ?..asked JR)...

While I dont think they've discussed trading him (or have plans to do so this season), I agree with you that there is some smoke..Maybe means that they may not extend him at the end of the year...

The Gen Z rumour appears at the same time as the Chychrun rumour appeared that he is not willing to resign in Ottawa.

EF started the rumour about Gen Z has strong contacts in the Senators Org.

I am sure it is just a coincidence.

Chychrun makes 4.6M and is signed for next year as well.

It won’t be nearly that high. I think it’ll higher than many expect but those of us paying attention to him will think it’s a lesser return.

Savard at least had a reputation as a great shutdown defensemen, even though he had fallen off a cliff that season. Kovacevic’d biggest asset is his contract so he should go for more than a mid-late pick but trade deadline values are always weird.

He's a big, solid #5 defender on a bargain contract.

It's always hard to guess what these Hagel/Jeannot/Coleman type assets will go for but I would almost guarantee that Kovacevic has been circled as a prime target for cap-strapped teams with defensive depth issues. And I think the return will be very high and wouldn't be surprised at all if he pulls a 1st round pick back in return.

I'd give up a 2nd for him without thinking twice. That contract is huge surplus value.

According to the 'Hockey Writers' website, Tocchet is one of a number of players and ex-coaches who still stay in contact with Phil Kessel. And of course he has a Pittsburgh connection as well.

Apparently Kessel is still working out and hoping to sign with somebody. And Tocchet was quoted as saying that he's surprised that hasn't happened, given the fact that teams recently picked up Perry and Parise, who are actually older.

Could Kessel be a consideration for the Canucks after March 8th? He'd come cheap.
will he be eligible for the playoffs if he signs a 1yr deal?

Probably a more obvious guy to flip is Ian Cole not Gen Z.
Terrible idea. If you're trying to rebuild Vancouver's rep as a free agent destination, you don't trade players the same season you sign them. Especially a respected veteran like Cole.

That's why Zed is the name popping up. They traded for him & have no obligation to keep him.

I thought this at the time he was acquired, when people were talking about his contract wants in Calgary, and I wish so badly now that I had posted about it because I still think we might potentially see this happen and none of you would ever hear the end of it.

As much as I would love this, it’s just not a good idea
I know but it’s fun to imagine. If we could add Wilson and Gudas to the line up that would add some much needed grit.

I wouldnt mind a Mik+ Podz for Gudas trade either

Screw it.

Mik + Podz + Lek

For

Wilson

Lindholm - EP -Wilson
Hog- JT - BB
Dak - Ted - Garly
Aman -Suter - Laf
Tom Wilson with that contract. If it was Mikheyev for Wilson + 2024 first. I still would not do it. That might be one worst contracts in the NHL. Wilson has lost a step and the contact doesn’t start til next year.

On the flip side, late 1sts are incredibly overrated.
Yep, the odds of a late 1st becoming a top 6 forward or top 4 d-man are fairly low. And even then it'll usually be 3+ years before they make an impact in the NHL.

That's a big reason why I think it's perfectly fine to dangle the 2025 1st (and another lesser piece) to get someone like Tanev.

If they can talk to his agent and work out a team-friendly contract before the trade I do 2025 1st for Tanev all day long.

I will take you at your word, if it happens I expect you to make HFCanucks feel miserable and insignificant before your prowess.

I lean more towards keeping Zad, in playoffs if you f*** with one of our guys, the Russian fridge will pancake your ass.

But if the team does want to move them, it'd be believable too, as this management has been doing a decent job at keeping their cards closer to their chest, and make sure that all megaphones are confiscated in case some random moron blasts their strategies across the league.
