I'd aim higher. Someone that will push Suter down to 4C.

Doesn't have to be an impact player (couldn't afford one anyway) but just someone that wouldn't look out of place on like 2nd line wing.
Adam Henrique? He has some skill and can play up the lineup

So I'm now crunching the numbers on retaining Lindholm and Tanev, you start with basically retaining none of the UFAs, replacing them with $1M players, and ditching Garland and Mikheyev's salary. We'll see if it works.

Can you post the line-up? They removed $5.5m with Kuzmenko, and Lindholm could take + $2m~ on top of that to re-sign. If they then get rid of Mikheyev, that should cover the bumps to Joshua and Blueger. So is the difference mainly Pettersson and Hronek?

I haven't gone that deep yet, but according to Cap Friendly I believe we have around $49M on the books next year (assuming PDG and Brisebois are off LTIR and Poolman remains on, and including OELs dead space). That's obviously before any of the R/UFAs, including Pettersson and Hronek.

I'd have to check again, but I think that $49M is for around 13 players. So if you assume ~$88M cap can work back from there.

Suter-Miller-Boeser
Ep-Lindholm-Mikheyev
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Hoglander-Aman-Lafferty

With Suter being the spot they still want to upgrade.

I prefer this rotation:

(Lindholm taking most draws on his line, however)

Suter-Miller-Boeser
Mikheyev-Pettersson-Lindholm
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
Hoglander-Aman-Lafferty

I prefered a Hertl target, but now that we have a W/C, id be down to throw the same amount again for Geuntzel.

Heck Id still go after Hertl idgaf cup or bust.

I don't have a problem w the price paid for EL if that's who they wanted, but as some have said previously, I don't think he was the best candidate to target.

Having said that, who I want and who is available are 2 different stories. No sure that buchnevich was avail, but I think stl woulda been a good target for fwds and d for that price.

Now that this is out of the way though, personally Id be looking for that elusive d, but almost equally, I think the team needs more grit up front. Keep saying it but playoff hockey is different beast, and they don't have the bangers up front in depth they will prob need. Can't rely on backend giants to muck it up and lose a 1 for 1 tradeoff depleting dmen logging big mins

the moves avs made prior to winning the cup in 2022 has canuck vibes. i still think they need a few more depth pieces to really start their journey to the cup.

I would be willing to part with our first next season, and a 2nd round pick if it meant we could dump Mikheyev and obtain Henrique.

I still think there's 2-3 more moves happening before the deadline. Making the prediction that the Canucks sign Phil Kessel in the next couple of weeks. He's a veteran presence who has won multiple cups, another former Penguin, history with Tocchet (Pittsburgh, Arizona), and can be placed anywhere in the lineup. He did wonders for Vegas according to the players.

Also I don’t know if the rumours are true but apparently he’s in the best shape of his life

As I digest this trade, got me thinking to our summer and possibly resigning Lindholm, Hornek and Pettersson. I think we have room and I am less attached to some of the depth pieces Han many on here, I think he have a couple players ready to step in next season and I also think replacements in the market can be found (we didn’t have this depth until we went and got it). Anyway, also got me thinking about how this whole management group, couches included are no BS. I say this because if Pettersson continues to Fu*k around, he may in fact find out. They need cost certainty and if he doesn’t sign or give them indication if the cost so they can make decisions. I could see them signing Lindholm and trading Pettersson in the off-season for a boat load of high end talent.

I don’t think you are wrong.

One area that management knows they need to upgrade is the resiliency of the group. They need to galvanize this team to get through the ups and downs of the playoffs.

The best way to import that is to bring in more players who have been on a Stanley Cup run. Kessel in particular is not bothered by shit—and that’s something that Vancouver may need for their group. Look how the media and external pressure affected the 2011 team. I think it would do wonders for the core players to be in the orbit of that DGAF attitude during a playoff run.

So yeah, whether he playing on the top-six or is the 13th forward, I think there is some marginal value that Kessel could yet bring to this team on the ice. But, it’s mostly in the locker room where his impact would be felt.

People keep saying " I don't think we are done yet".

So what do we see going out the door to facilitate a trade? We have little in the way of draft picks left from this year, so we have to be talking Podkolzin, Bains, Lekkerimaki, Willander and EP2 needed to sweeten any deal. Or really clean out the cupboard and start selling off 2025 draft picks.

I think we slightly overpaid for Lindholm, if he is going to end up just being a rental. Don't think we are going to have near enough money to sign him for anything near what Cal apparently offered.

And we have no cap space, unless Soucy stays on LTIR until the playoffs. And we have no cap space to spare next year, or likely the year after either.

So anything else we try and add better have both a low price tag, and a low cap hit.

I think we still have a couple small depth moves to make. We just got the biggest rental on the market this year so I wouldn't expect anything else to crazy.

But then again this is Allvin we are talking about. Anything is possible.

Probably a bottom 6 player who can PK/faceoffs. I suggested Nick Bjugstad.

Maybe another depth dmen in case injuries hit.

I mean if we're all in we have to look at:

Larrson on the 2nd pairing RH
Tanev on the 2nd pairing RH
Cernak (Dream) on the 2nd pairing RH

Still would like to add Bjugstad on the 4th C line

This is what I threw together quickly. Podkolzin may not make the roster, so that's potential money to play with. We can waive PDG or sent Aman down as well.

Of course, the big factor here is whether Lindholm willing to stay in the 7M-ish range. That's a pretty steep drop from his supposed 9M ask from Calgary but there's no chance we sign him at that price. I'm also assuming Pettersson and Hronek don't squeeze every possible cent out of us. I didn't trade Mikheyov, so that could open up options if we find a taker.

And yes, I signed Myers. While I'd prefer to put that money elsewhere. I'm pretty certain they want him back. So long as it's 3M or less, I think we can stomach it. Don't see any scenario we sign Zadorov. At least not if he's chasing 5M+.

All in all, we can afford to pay everyone a little more than what I listed them at but we, ideally, don't have to. If the cap hits are more reasonable, we really only need to let Cole and DeSmith walk. Maybe Lafferty too.

This all assumes a 87.7M cap.
