I'd like to see Burroughs back, but it feels like the Canucks are moving on.

Apparently the Canucks are interested in "someone" from Quinnipiac. A few interesting prospects for another college FA signing on that roster.
My guess would be Quillian, Brindarmour or Graf. I dont think we have enough room to be an attractive landing spot for Metsa
Not really they could agree to deal earlier in principle but hold off until bonus is paid.Rosters are normally pretty much set by this point - this bonus payment date is really shitty for a Myers trade.
The obvious answer is to buy him out but would require Aqualini to pay someone a lot of money to go away and I don’t think his ego would allow it.

I think the Canucks are trying to raise the bar on the back end. Burroughs looks decent because the bar is very low (I do like him). His competition has been Myers, Juulsen and Bear? Absolutely awful.Weird, it's a good mutual fit for both sides. But I agree that it does seem headed that way
I agree. So I wonder if they’re signalling that to him in contract talks and he’s going to try to find a team that envisions him as a #6/#7 dman on the nhl roster instead of a call-up.I think the Canucks are trying to raise the bar on the back end. On my teams with even a half decent d he would crack their top 8.
Let’s keep in mind that guys like Highmore, Beagle, Roussel etc…. Looked okay on the Canucks and then we’re immediately out of the league when they left.
I agree.. i think it is just coming down to price.. burroughs at 1.5 is a no go and i can totally see him looking for that on a multi yearmoving on from burroughs is fine in a vacuum -- he's unlikely to ever be more than a depth guy -- but it's strange that the canucks don't seem interested in even trying to keep him as organizational depth. their right side depth going into next year is hronek, myers, johansson and mcward. pretty good chance bear is brought back and possibly juulsen or woo but that still leaves two pretty big question marks as the 4th and 5th guys on the list and that's all assuming myers is back

Grit and intelligence and skating.Eh, Burroughs is a replacement level player. I wouldn’t pay a premium for results that you can get for half a million less.
There are a handful of similar defensemen available every off-season. Each typically capable of delivering a similar performance in similar minutes. Why pay the extra half-mil if you don’t have to?
I think they want to get a definitive upgrade. If Bear and Burroughs both move on, the Canucks can focus on a upgrades. You could replace a depth player like Burroughs (physical play) by bringing Schenn back and get an upgrade everywhere but the cap. That might push bear off the team, not good enough for top 4, too expensive for depth. Keep a spot open for a younger player a 4th D.
1 ????
2 Hronek
3 Schenn
4 Younger player
Worse case Myers stays Hronek Schenn Myers Prospect.
At least Hughes has his priorities in good order!
Schenn's not an upgrade on anyone at this point. Maybe in the dressing room, but don't want anymore mentorpedes.
I expect Schenn will be back in the AHL before the end of his next contract.
