According to Seravalli the Avalanche are making Ross Colton available to clear cap space. Canucks had interest in him last off-season. 3 more years at 4m. I don't see any conceivable way he fits, though.
I cant see anyone touching that contract without getting a sweetener

Really though, what does involving an agent do?

Allvin to all teams: You can have Mikheyev for literally anything.

Millstein to all teams: No, but seriously....

Don't see him being moved and he likely ends up replacing Joshua as Garland's running mate. Honestly, won't surprise me at all if Mikheyev is more productive than Joshua next season, whether it be here or elsewhere.

He was their third line centre last year. First year as a dedicated centre. No idea how he fared there, though.
I'm sure there will be interest from teams.

But if you punt Mik + a sweetener for Future Considerations.

Then acquire Colton plus a small sweetener for Future Considerations.

Flip Lindholm's rights for anything.

Could be a net positive.

But makes it unlikely Blueger comes back if that happens.

i think an issue with holding on to mikheyev is that the team is mentally done with him due to the way the playoffs unfolded. it's not just a statistical gamble to hope he bounces back but a team chemistry issue. perhaps not his fault but the reality.

Exactly, and this is what I was saying the other day.

You want the organization to have the 'feel' of moving forward and if popular, effective players like Zadorov and Joshua leave and the $5 million healthy scratch is back next year, it's ... not the vibe you want to have going into next year.

the other related issue is that if he does not bounce back he is a very heavy immovable boat anchor all next season. he needs to be on a team that can handle the downside of the risk. we're not it.

Yeah, the Keith Ballard situation.

*Maybe* he rebounds? But if he doesn't you have an even bigger boat anchor and you missed your chance to move on when it was semi-affordable.

I wouldn't be surprised if they end up moving the 3rd or 4th to get rid of Mikheyev. The draft is a total bust anyways, and you're trying to win next year and that contract is really holding everything up. It's just dollars and cents. And it's preferable to the buyout penalty.

If the ask was only a 3rd or 4th he'd be gone by now.

I would wager they're tentative to move both and not pick until the 6th round. The reporting thus far is they don't really want to add any sweeteners.

Mikheyev on one knee produced at a 50 point pace before getting shut down. once his knee is back to or better than it was pre injury ( i don't see this as the impossibility others seem to have already priced in) is it really a stretch to assume he could be a 50+ point scorer AND an elite penalty killing defensive player?

Guy has hands of stone. That has nothing to do with his knee.

He absolutely cannot play in the Top 6 and is vastly overpaid for what he brings in the bottom 6.

They need to move on.

define rebounds.

Even if he rebounds to the best he's ever played in his career it's worse than what Joshua provided last year at a higher price.

If it's somewhere mid-way between what he was doing in the last 60 games of last year and his previous levels ... you do anything you can to get rid of him.

Yeah, I don't understand why the Canucks wouldn't be fine with signing Joshua to a 3m or greater contract. Seems like an easy one and a standard going rate for a high-end, young, physical third-liner. Bring him and Blueger back and you have a stable third line.
Maybe they're worried he'll show up to camp fat again, so waiting as long as humanly possible is the play. :boredom:

Jimbo won't have a job much longer:

It's hard to fathom that Allvin would take the route of hoarding picks and hoping for a Mikheyev recovery versus taking the assertive route of paying the price to be rid of him and getting back Joshua and Zadorov. Not his style
They have shown themselves to be a management group that will aggressively correct mistakes.

The thing is, if we re-sign Joshua at 3.5m and Zadorov at 5m, there really isn't any room for Guentzel. Well, there would be, but it would mean that Juulsen would be our 6D and we would have 4.7mil to sign a 3C, 4/5D, and 7D. That's pretty tight, and that's WITH getting rid of Mikheyev.

So really, the two may not be overly related. It could be just stalling as well.

colton would look great on either miller or pettersson's wing imo. if he's available for free (or near to) because of the avs cap situation i think they should look hard at him. better use of 4m than joshua for sure

i like edmondson a lot as a replacement for zadorov at much cheaper also. this seems doable and would give some flexibility with colton being able to play C and pdg and suter both being able to move up into the top 6 on occaison

colton - miller - boeser
guentzel - pettersson - hoglander?
pdg - blueger - garland
suter - aman - ???
??? ???

hughes - hronek
soucy - myers
dillon - edmundson

They seem very decisive, and very quick to act on things.

I'm cautiously optimistic about them being able to sort out our offseason.
