Myers at 4 heh? Ask yourself how many months of the 30 he just is about to conclude you would have wanted to pay him that. And he's 34 starting next year

Dhaliwal.
That’s crazy..if he’s looking for that,he won’t be playing here.

Again, he’s already made an absolute killing in his career earnings..If he wants to remain a Canuck (in his home province),which I think he does..I think he’ll give the team a considerable discount.

Tons of stupid GMs will pay a stupid price for him.

I could see him getting a 5mil x 4 year deal.

Just like Zadorov. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets 6 mil.

Blueger/Lafferty can both go before Joshua and Zadorov.
Obviously I can appreciate why you'd prefer that, but Joshua and Zadorov are both going to get paid way more than Blueger and Lafferty. Joshua, given his size, style of player and goals per game, is going to get paid quite well as a UFA, and Zadorov, given his size and skill set, and age, will also get paid very well in free agency.

To contrast, because Lafferty and Bleuger's scoring has slowed down, I think both of them could be retained at pretty reasonable rates. I don't think Lafferty is that important to this team so wouldn't pay him much, but I think Bleuger is pretty important and will also not get paid too much.

So, ignoring Lafferty since he's a fourth liner that isn't as comparable to the others, I'd say that out of Blueger, Zadorov and Joshua, Blueger is going to get paid the most reasonable rate in terms of his impact on the team. So while I get preferring Joshua or Zadorov, I think that will actually end up being less efficient from a cap perspective.

Yes, discount, and a considerable one.

The only problem is, our management seems to be in love with the guy. And I find that quite infuriating.

I agree, but I also wonder if he entertains playing in Seattle or Calgary if they'd have interest if he feels that Canucks management is being too stingy.

He’s a very popular guy in the room….If they moved off him, they’d have to replace him (which wouldn’t be cheap).

He would work as a stop gap until Willander is ready.

It’s his call..If he wants to end his career without any chance of winning a championship..?

He’s already made the $..

You called?

Seattle has Larsson Borgen and Calgary has Weegar Andersson so they wouldn't put monetary value on Myers

Maybe the Oilers but they have no cap space and need a top6 scorer more

If he wants the bag he's gonna have to go East or play for a bottomfeeder again

I'm ok with that. Look how settled our D was when he was gone and it's gonna get more sloppy starting at 34

I think the Cole contract is reasonable.

Furthermore he should be offering us less because of how badly he's bent us over during the last 5 yrs but i get it doesnt work that way

Some team will absolutely give Myers $4M/yr.

Especially with the cap increasing.

The lack of RHD even remotely capable of playing Top 4 minutes is extremely limited in availability.

I just don’t see it happening in Van.

I think Myers will take a paycut to stay, maybe 2 years at 3M. And regarding Blueger - there's already been reports that the team has prioritized re-signing him and rightfully so.

I think it'll be

Re-signed:

Myers
Blueger
Joshua

Too expensive, not a fit, not important (in that order):

Zadorov
Lindholm
Lafferty

50/50:

Cole
DeSmith (depending on AAV)
And although he's not currently on the team, Tanev

you can't just pay everybody. someone on this roster has to go to pay for pettersson and (maybe) hronek's raises
Let Blueger, Lindholm, Myers, Lafferty, and Cole walk.

Blueger - We have Suter and at a lower cap hit
Lindholm - Just too much risk
Myers - $2M and over and he can walk
Cole - He’s almost done.
Lafferty - Honestly a great bottom 6 forward, but you can definitely find a replacement for him at near league min. Podkolzin can also replace him.
DeSmith - Silovs replaces him

Re sign Zadorov if you can get him anywhere between $4-4.5M. Re sign Joshua between $2M-3M, anything more than I guess you let him walk.

Should leave us with $21-22M of cap space with Hronek left to re sign (starting from 28.4M). Moving Mikheyev should also be considered in the off season to gain some extra cap space.

I think Bleuger could be re-signed for a reasonable amount/term.

I'd rather sign Tanev over Zadorov.

As I'm trying to find the timestamp for when Dhaliwal mentioned Myers wants $4m, a few thoughts:

- I knew there would be a fervor to re-sign Zadorov after his game last night. With any player, you have to judge their mean value instead of their highlights. Zadorov is a 3rd pairing dman here. There's no way you pay a 3rd pairing Dman $5m per.

- At the 33 min mark, Dhaliwal mentions $3m/2years for Myers. Even $3.5m per would be fine. Does not say $4m per.

- Given their recent line shuffle, I'd like to see Joshua play without Garland and Blueger. If he's able to excel, then he is the next best asset to re-sign after Hronek.

- Garland is a funny case: He's probably at the trade value where he could move without being dumped in the offseason. If they don't do it, then they hang onto him for the remaining 2 years. If DeBrusk is there to be had, they should move Garland/Mikheyev to make room.

- Lafferty can be replaced by Kasperi Kapanen. I think Rutherford/Allvin target KK this offseason regardless of Lafferty being re-signed.

- If the team misses out on Tanev in the offseason, they've still got options like Chatfield, Pesce, Roy, DeMelo, Walker etc...

- Even if they re-sign Blueger, they still need a 3C to replace the vacating Lindholm. That's even with Suter still here.

Wanting Tanev over Zad is fair.

Tbh, I don’t see Blueger being re signed. Suter is perfectly capable of handling 3C and is the better player and cheaper. Blueger is most certainly going to want a $1M raise which is going to be like $3M.

Suter on his 1.6M contract is remarkable for next season and you really don’t have to worry about trying to find a 3C. I’d also much rather have Suter play at C and re signing Blueger forces him to play on the wing and makes us much more smaller on the wings.

Since it’s only March I’m not going to spend too much time thinking about what our lines 6 months from now looks like but if you remove all the UFA’s (with Joshua/Zadorov re signed) our line up looks like this:

Mikheyev-Petey-______
Hoglander-Miller-Boeser
Joshua-Suter-Garland
Podkolzin-Aman-PDG

Hughes-Hronek
Soucy-_____ (Tanev?)
Zadorov-Juulsen

The funny part is that Soucy has played plenty of RD during his career and performed pretty well in that role, but the issue is that Tocchet seems to hate playing dmen on their off side even if they're perfectly comfortable doing so.

You might not see it but there's already been credible reports that the Canucks are intending to re-sign Blueger.

It's interesting as Blueger's and Suter's stats are very similar. I don't really think Suter replaces Blueger however - Suter is good defensive but he's not really a shutdown defensive C in the mold that Blueger is, he's more of a versatile swiss army knife who can (and does) play all over the lineup. The team has needed a 3rd line C for years now and we are seeing the benefits of having one - it's odd that many posters (not just you) are fine with letting him walk.

The way I see it, one produces more offense (goals) and is decent in a shutdown role at $1.6M cap while averaging 15 goals a season. The other is the lesser offensive player but is the better forechecking/shutdown center that is better suited as a bottom 6 option but is due for a raise from his current $1.9M contract.

Ideally you want both on your team and I’m not opposed to not having him back. I’m just spitballing scenarios of where you can save cap space and if you really wanted to save cap as much as possible to allow upgrades on other areas of the roster, you’d probably just let him walk and run Suter as the 3C.

Then there’s this. I’d have no issue having someone making $1.6M on the 4th line. That said, Suter on the 4th line would be a waste. Whereas Blueger on the 4th line is more than fine considering his qualities, but a near $3M player on the 4th line? Meh. (Assuming he asks for a raise)

I don’t think it’s odd for people to think both scenarios. Ideally if you can get Blueger at the same price with a bit more term, then you can just ignore the premises above and enjoy 2 quality depth players at bargain contracts.

So far I seem to agree with everyone.

I personally don’t think he’s worth that much anymore, especially we are the only haves that have seen him play the last 5 years (brutal)

But tocchet openly said he likes him, the coaches like him management and the team likes him.

That said all it takes is one team to want to over pay. Worst do we want him on Calgary or Edmonton’s blue line ?

If someone willing to overpay for schenn I think somebody will overpay for myers.

I think Myers asking for 4 million per year is just f***ing ridiculous.

What would Zad be looking for? 5X5?

Probably, or something a little south of $5M AAV at longer term. He might even get more. Seravalli said today Canucks always knew they probably wouldn't be able to afford him, and it's been known since Calgary his AAV ask starts with something around $5M.

I don't think he'll demand much of a rise at all. He signed for less than his last contract just to play here. My guess is he values term over dollar amount and may stick pretty close to his current dollar but want a 3-4 year commitment.

In fact, I think that's our big play with a lot of the UFAs we have: term. Offering term may get guys like Joshua to take much less than they could potentially chase in free agency. Hell, I'm hoping that's how we entice Toffoli back if he doesn't re-up in Winnipeg. Unless we actually have a shot at Guentzel.

I really don't see how Allvin plans to improve the team without ditching Mikheyev though. Playing around on capfriendly. We could barely afford to add Toffoli if he's willing to sign around 4.5M. This assumes Tanev agrees to 3M but I did opt for bloated contracts to Zadorov (4.5M) and Hronek (8M) just to see where we're at. Getting either one of them to take less would be massive.

In that above hypothetical, the only players we lose are Blueger and Cole. That does assume DeSmith signs at 2.2M.
