Hard to really say but it doesn't matter. He's worth signing to anything at 7.5M or below because we really don't have anyone nearly capable of replacing him. Nor are their better alternatives in free agency. He's also still young, especially for a defenseman. 26 is right on the tip of his prime.

It's only if he insists on 8M+ that you have to consider the risks of re-signing him more strongly.

The interesting discussion on Hronek for me is term. I think you're paying him north of $7M AAV regardless, but maybe you get him on a 3-4 year term to see if Willander will be ready and you have him expiring around when you have to extend Hughes. You could probably also move that deal if needed.

Hronek will still be young enough to sign one more multi-year deal off the back of that, so I dunno if he'd be amendable, but it may be one way to keep him in the near-term anyway.

you can't just pay everybody. someone on this roster has to go to pay for pettersson and (maybe) hronek's raises

I mean it depends on the amount. I'm ok with Joshua at 3 but not with Zadorov at 5. Former might be a slight overpay but the latter is a substantial overpay.
 
I haven't been watching every game or attending many at all of late. But from what I have seen, Hronek's decision-making and strength on the puck has waned much like Red Wings fans reported was the case in previous seasons with that team. He's still a passable 2D or a fairly strong 3D, and that's probably worth just under 8M.

lafferty is the easy odd man out if he wants a raise. joshua is a decent pk guy as well as other skills. blueger and suter have been excellent swiss army knife centres. lafferty is a good fourth liner but he can't play up the lineup and it looks like he just does not have the skills to separate himself from replacement players.

joshua knows he is in a perfect situation to elevate his career but this injury has potentially derailed the big payday he would want. he might take a one year team friendly deal to try and pump his value.

the problem for the canucks is they can't pay everyone and they especially can't pay everyone the season after next.

zadorov i just don't know. when he is good he is a force of nature, but he is not a consistent 4d so it's risky paying him to be one and we also have both hughes and soucy under contract. if he has a good playoff we just will not be able to afford him.

It’s funny with the uncertainty around Hroneks contract. Myers has quickly become the Canucks most important UFA and it not particularly close. The only other right shot dman under contract is Juulsen for next year and you can’t assume Tanev is going to sign.

They will try to retain Myers regardless. He'll probably be easier to sign and plays the right side. Obviously that's predicated on Myers not going for an absolute payday, as I think he could get a pretty decent 3-year deal if he goes UFA, but apparently, he wants to stay. The coaches also love him and Tocchet always talks about his leadership.

Zadorov is probably out the window if he continues to perform. Dhaliwal said this morning that there was a window to sign him shortly after the trade for what he termed a "reasonable rate", but that's apparently no longer the case now. He'll want term and AAV. Dhaliwal did say Zadorov would prefer to stay as well, but there will be a long list of teams looking to sign him.

I think Myers asking for 4 million per year is just f***ing ridiculous.

What would Zad be looking for? 5X5?
