Funny, didn't I say this in the offseason? I recall a number of people including you saying that the coaching change was going to change a lot for this team and that we would have a bounce-back year.

Change a lot vs being the sole reason for the drop. See how these things are different?

And you've complained about a lot more than just coaching problems. Whining about everything is not the same as attributing all problems to the coach.

I honestly wonder how long we're going to have to suffer through this awful product on the ice before someone like Gillis clues in that this is EXACTLY why the New York Rangers moved on from Tortorella.

Are people still fooling themselves it's the coaches who are the problem and not the players, like this?:laugh::laugh: You think after a three year decline and two different coaches in that span, people would start to clue in.

The coaching isn't the problem. Tortorella can only do so much with what he's given to work with. Gillis thought he could "re-set" the team by changing the coaching staff. I disagreed.

I would say Stanton, as well. And hopefully Schroeder will get there too.

Yes, Stanton as well, but I was mostly just listing our top end guys that will be heavily relied upon in the future. Stanton may develop still, but he's a perfect third pairing defensemen IMO.

One of the biggest problems with regard to their offense is with their powerplay

The pp is just no good. If it was an animal, it needs to be taken out back and shot.... Yet they put the same personnel out there game after game including an ultra cold player and two lefties at the point with no screen in front of the net.

I don't agree with what Gillis is doing here, but this is beyond hilarious.

 He didn't call out Gillis. He said something that everyone already knows and what he said could mean a few different things.

He certainly said a whole heck of a lot more than most coaches do who are in similar circumstances.

Last #Canuck coach I recall questioning personnel was Keenan. Didn't sit well with Burkie. Maybe Mike Gillis isn't on Twitter.

They're predictable. Set up Garrison/Edler for one timers. How creative.

It's easier for Gillis to change a coaching staff than it is an entire team. What he did by changing the whole coaching staff was the right thing to do.

I distinctly remember Gillis saying "this is our big re-set" in reference to bringing in Tortorella. I've been arguing all year that the coaching change wouldn't be enough, and sure enough this team has continued to regress. And it's not to do with our depth either...our core players have fallen off the map completely.

Daniel is on pace for just 18 goals and 57 points.

Wow.

It's easier sure, but saying it was the right thing to do is very questionable. Yes he needed to change the coaching staff, but he also needed to change the core. And that's where he failed.

This is called the POST GAME thread right? You can talk about whatever you want though. It's a free country

Oh thanks!

Wait, so am I allowed to bring up anything from before the final buzzer? Technically that's not post game either. Maybe send me a spread sheet if you can.

Why does this guy Mike ALWAYS sound so mad on the post game show? He's a regular and the tone of his voice always rises dramatically as he goes on until he's practically losing it.

I don't think anyone thought coaching was the #1 problem or that making a coaching change would magically turn everything around. It was clear that a change needed to be made and it's 100 times easier to change coaches than to overhaul the roster, especially when most of the value on your roster is bound by no-trade clauses. The coaching change had a possibility of being able to improve things; so far it appears that it hasn't.

Yeah because you can just up and change a whole core.

Lord love us...
