Dobson and Hughes.... i wouldn't do that.
They both need the puck on their stick and there's only one puck on the ice.

Hronek is perfect for Hughes, he's kinda of gritty ...well, maybe feisty is the word that best describes him. his passes are rock hard and on the tape and he has great vision. Hughes won the freakin Norris playing with Hronek.
leave them together.

Soucy/Dobson would be the second pairing becasue Dobson's a stud and will drive strong even-strength corsi numbers on his own. This would be huge and completely change the make up of the team.

Vancouver definitely says no and it's not even remotely close. There is basically no deal where they would give up Willander AND Lekkerimaki on top of Pettersson.

Pettersson doesn't have an NTC until next season, so there is no hand forcing.
Your preference might be to keep EP but let's assume in this hypothetical that option is not on the table, management have already decided he's going. At least they've decided one of the two are gone but that EP has stronger market value which I am sure is the case.

So keeping EP off the table, you've accepted he's gone.

You wake up tomorrow to find his replacement is Matt Barzal and you've also added Dobson to the D without giving up a roster player. You aren't happy about that?

I think that's a wild overrating of how good Willander/Lekkerimaki (especially the latter) will become.

Dobson would form his own pairing, leave Hughes with Hronek.

The Canucks can't afford to add both Barzal and Dobson because Dobson will get paid ten million dollars next year. They would lose another roster player in this deal, though indirectly and it would probably have to be Boeser, who's production is very hard to replace.

Weird proposal by Rosner.

I’d trade Pulock before Dobson honestly.

If I’m Vancouver though I’d probably trade JT miller before Pety because of age.

Is the rumored Pety and JT miller rift really that serious? I thought it was Horvat and Miller and they moved Horvat?

I feel like if VAN was going to trade Pety they would wait to do so after the season
I personally don’t think the rift is major, it just comes down to the fact Canucks are barely top 15 in the league and slipping, while expectations were higher.

And you’re no rookie you know how narratives change once your losing verse winning

Come down to JT Miller being an athlete that has a passion for winning. It’s less of a rift between the players and more media blowing it out of proportion. Do people forget that time we had to listen to that nonsense about Draisaitl sleeping with Nurse’s sister and giving him a black eye? Media loves to blow things up.

They could still make it work with Boeser if he signs around 8 and they got rid of Hoglander and Desharnais, it would just be tight

Heinen - Miller - Boeser (8)
DeBrusk - Barzal - Garland
Joshua - Blueger - Sherwood

Hughes - Hronek
Soucy - Dobson (10)
- Myers

Demko

Would be 80.75

They have dead cap of 5.48 next year, so 86.23

Based on a projected salary cap of 92.4, that would leave 6.17 left. Raty and Sasson could take two of the bottom forward spots, probably under 1 mil each. Say 4.5 left for another 4th line forward, 3rd pair defenseman, a backup and 3 extras.

The biggest thing is finding a backup with Demko’s health, though it’s entirely possible he ends up being an LTIR candidate and they re-sign Lankinen for 4-something.

Realistically they’d probably need to dump Myers as well.

The biggest thing is Dobson would be getting paid for only one year at 10 mil value and skews the team’s cap structure going forward. I mean Quinn’s going to make bank regardless but it’s hard to try to argue a discount when Dobson’s at 10

The amount of rumours that come out about Vancouver have to be the most in the league.
To be fair the most trades happen in Van too. They don't call him Trader Jim for no reason.

Could also trade Hronek if you got Dobson.

Although, I don't think this helps the Isles nearly as much given they'd have a huge hole on RHD

Just play Mayfield 30 more icings a game....minutes, I mean minutes per game.

Had there been any talk of the Isles shaking things up or are they going to see it through with this group?

They're gonna "run it back" because Sweet Lou "believes in this core"

True. Though then they’re just kind of in the same position on defense just with a better and more expensive #2

This roster still looks bad. The team needs to add another top 6 forward.

Our top 2 Centres both 32+? Miller and Nelson with no Centre prospect in the pipeline.. Not so sure about that. Plus Nelson could walk. Seems like a short sighted move.

Id rather do Barzal Dobson for Petterson and 1st.
Not sure a 1st is enough, and I like EP more than most.
