Canucks have to many guys like Carlo. Large, stay-at home Dmen. Don't get me wrong, no doubt Carlo is an serious upgrade over Desharnais, Forbort, Juulsen and Myers, however in any deal that see's assets leaving vancouver, they have to address a need, which is even strength corsi positive guys that move the puck on the second pairing.

Dobson’s been horrible this season, a far cry from isles fans who were claiming he was a top 10 dman in the league last year.

If it's true that Barzal is on the table as a replacement for Pettersson then Vancouver needs to get it done. You're not going to get a better replacement that that. Not even Tage Thompson beats it.
Barzal is overpaid too but he's 80-85% as good as Pettersson when healthy and has a lower caphit.

Exactly....Even if the Isles wanted to deal both Brazal and Dobson. What the hell would they use them both in 1 deal??? To get 1 player? No if the isles wanted to move both, we would maximize the return by do 2 separate deals. 30 teams would be interested in both so we would have plenty of opinions

Yup. I don't think you are going to get a similar 1 for 1 type piece for EP40. You'll either get a similarly valued player with their own question marks, or less significant pieces without them - because those question marks are why he's (supposedly) available to begin with.
Dobson is a young-ish 1D. Doubt you'll fetch him 1 for 1, nevermind added, for EP40. He'd easily be offered and traded if this was Elias of 2 years ago, 100 point version. It's almost 2 years since that's been the case. Could he become that again? Sure, but that's a big if, at this point.
He's still tremendously valuable; but significantly less so than his peak. And has supposed attitude concerns. These risks affect value.
Both Dobson and Pettersson have been quite underwhelming this season. I think Pettersson's definitely the better player, but his contract drags his value down a bit. I can't imagine either team doing it one-for-one, but maybe that could work as a base.
I mean he was 8th in Norris voting lat year. 70 points, +12 on -16 team
I would say it is closer to 1 for 1 trade for EP than crazy offers we see in this thread.
Also im not NYI fan.

well assuming its not just for Dobson and a 1st but if its a bigger deal that can potentially be taken care of, but yes the salary cap does make things harder than it should be

The main factor is that the deal if involving Dobson would have to involve close to even cap out simply because the Isles don’t have the space to absorb him and not give up close to it. The Isles aren’t moving Barzal and Dobson together for Pettersson no matter how much people think otherwise. Engvall or Cizikas have to be included for cap purposes.

wtf u talking about? when did I even bring Barzal up?
Engvall is 6x3m and Cizikas is on his last legs with 3x2.5m so basically 2x negative valued contracts. Engvall was placed on waivers less than a month ago. no one claimed for free
