Not saying you did but the people thinking EP40 will return Barzal/Dobson/ plus add ons are utter insanity. The add on with Cizikas/Engvall was for cap dump purposes. It could be Pageau instead who’s more expensive but only has one more year left after this one.

I dont think u could get that value even on easy trading mode in NHL25 lol
oh I understand they are cap dumps to make it work but there would likely need to be a sweetner of some sort. I could see Cizikas being part to be honest but that long term Engvall likely not.

The fact that people are trying to substantially overvalue EP40 while make Dobson and Barzal look like bottom roster players is the whole comical reason I can’t take these offers serious. If it was a legitimate interest in Dobson, the Isles could honestly do better then adding in substantial value and only getting back Pettersson. Teams would value his RFA status and age well above what he’s being pushed as on here. A 70pt RHD who has potential to be a top PP QB at the age of 24 (25 in 3 days) holds massive value even with some flaws in his game defensively.

But how often are they proven accurate? An underperforming team in a hyped market with opaque absences is a magnet for all kinds of speculation. When you dig into actual quotes, the stories this season are pretty thin.

Why can't they run Hughes-Dobson on the PP1? Lots of teams don't run two defensemen on the PP but lots of teams don't have that type of defensive talent.

why on earth would you pay significant assets to test your rather optimistic theory that they would mesh seamlessly and risk killing the golden goose that is hughes or being forced to underutilize dobson?

counterpoint: hughes on the pp is a waterbug line walking one man band rover who runs the entire pp and uses the entire line point to point to find lanes to get his shot through. he would have to reign in his pp game just to avoid bumping into dobson. almost no teams run two dmen on the point because it has been proven to be less efficient at generating goals than overloading forwards down low.

the best modern analogue of dobson/hughes is the burns/karlsson folly of san jose. karlsson never broke 50 with burns around then immediately broke 100 when burns went on a much worse team. that's the kind of dynamite you're messing with.

Because if you watch him play on his game, you can tell he is a top 10 talent.
Just needs to find his motivation again.

Also let's not forget, even with his average stats, his defensive numbers are amazing, he is a selke level talent

He’s had a down year, and honestly has kinda fallen off since Roy took over. At the end of last year we thought maybe he was worn down bc of overuse, but he hasn’t lived up to his potential this season and this next contract is supposed to be the one where he’s locked in long term. I can see other teams circling bc this could just be a coaching issue.
 
I'm not trading either of Pettersson or Miller right now for anything short of a topC coming back or an elite play driving winger.

In saying that a core that is not somewhat harmonious will not win. It can only go so far before the situation needs a change. It's a bit of a quagmire

Not sure why people keep throwing out RD trade options. We have Hronek and Willander with Myers for a couple years to help young Willander transition while the OEL cap penalty peaks out. Its a good situation that only sucks right now because neither are available plus Hughes and the addition this team always knew it needed on LD are not available or here yet either.

Add 2 Cs that are underachieving and not seeing eye to eye. Pettersson being out since xmas. The teams top goal scorer getting concussed leading to a slow return to pace and the franchise goalie falling apart physically and you have a middling forward group with a horrendous defence at supporting that middling forward group and a very good back up goalie holding the dam from collapsing.

The scavengers are circling and the media is lapping up the attention. Winning fixes everything the team just needs to get healthy and people start playing like they can before they do anything drastic other than add a 2/3 defender independent of moving a core piece

Money is a wash , Van gets a legit top 4, a replacement ufa centre and centre prospect. Islanders have the best centre depth in the league until 2031. New york can retain and flip Vans 3rd pair d to a contender for a couple mid picks at the deadline.
 
Nucks need to be careful

That pdo Cinderella year last year made them think this is a bonafide contender.

Still a top ten pdo team this year. Hanging on by a thread even with Hughes.

Canucks have Hronek who’s excellent on the PP but prefer to have 4 forwards out there on the PP.
