People want this Pettersson trade to happen so badly, someone in the Vancouver organization could fart and we would hear about how it was a sign that Pettersson is on the trading block.

Well, if he doesn’t trade him it’s going to be awkward when they run into each other at the office coffee machine.

I mean the GM literally just said it's possible. No one says that about their franchise player. In GM speak he's as good as gone.

He's the only piece they can move where they could get a return that was beneficial for them. Just have to find a willing team who is willing to give Vancouver what they would need going forward.
Not too sure of Vancouvers needs but if I'm Yzerman, I offer Trey Augustine ( A+ goalie prospect) Nate Danielson( A center prospect)
Albert Johansson( decent d prospect) and whatever else i need to add to get it done. Detroit needs a NHL ready centerman.

He's a good buy low target for Detroit. Not sure they want only futures though.

He’s certainly not considered a buy low candidate by anyone in the league who follows hockey. Everyone in Vancouver is having a down year plus he’s not been healthy.

His value is franchise centre man. Elite shut down 2 way player.

Offer should reflect that, anything less will be tossed in the trash.

He used to be those things. It's buy low because he hasn't been that in like a year now and has regressed each of the last two seasons. Very risky contract for anyone to take on. Hence lower value. Best comparable is probably the Jack Eichel trade.

The same GM also said Demko was going to be ready if Vancouver beat Edmonton in the playoffs, Demko then proceeded to need multiple surgeries and missed the entire offseason and start of next season.

The same GM also said Pettersson was not hurt in the playoffs, only for reports to come out that he was in fact hurt.

This is Allvin saying anything is possible and no one is safe for a team that’s well under expectations this season.

Sounds like he's being traded then. Otherwise they risk his value continuing to tank and getting stuck with an anchor of a contract.

Even on a bad knee he’s playing like a top 5 shut down centre in the league. Rarely if ever do players of his quality just lose their ability and forget how to play.

But if he gets dealt for a 2nd a B prospect I’ll eat my words.

Haven’t heard anyone other than fans from other teams mention diminished value in terms of a trade.

The fact that this injury issue or mental issue or whatever it is is spanning multiple seasons is deeply concerning. You're probably looking at something like the Eichel trade if it's done this season.

Apples and oranges. Ridiculous point to make. GMs have limited dominion over a medical prognosis. They, however, have almost ultimate dominion on trade decisions.

You’re missing the actual point.

Doubtful

there isn’t a team on this planet in any sport who overrates their own prospects like red wings fans. Calling Trey Augustine an “A+ prospect” and including him as the centerpiece for Elias f***ing Pettersson is so obscene.

Id say the OP quote is a shot across the bow more than a hint at anything imminent or on the table.

Similar to what Drury did. Also similar in that Pete is just as fragile and "feely" as Kredier, Zib, and Fox. It didnt motivate them, just made them crawl deeper into their shells.

I guess we'll see soon if Petey is made of metal or glass.

You were conflating so much that you had no point. You aimed for the shoulder and hit the foot.
Still missing it

That’s exactly what it was, it’s more of a “this group has underperformed and we won’t take anything off the table. Trading anyone is an option right now.”

Wtf is he doing, who says that about a high value player? Vancouver has underperformed, but you could just say, “look we’re not where we want to be- so we’re looking at everything, but we believe Petey can be a top 5-10 center in the league.” That says, probably not, but shows no one is sacred on a non-elite team. This just adds fuel to the fire and the Vancouver media will start shit without fuel.

Winning will quiet the storm, but that’s going to be difficult with their current defense.

I expect if he gets moved Pettersson will likely explode and Vancouver will lose a deal. Unless they want to blow it up by trading everything but Hughes to go for McKenna (still awfully difficult with Demko & Hughes), I don’t get it.

Michael Hage + Jacob Fowler + 2 x 2024 1st round picks (top 2 protected).
Without commenting on the value, having watched Allvin and Rutherford at work it is clear they deal from a position that the future is now. They aren't going to trade a key player entirely for futures whether or not the futures would ultimately provide more value than the player(s) they're giving up.

Unless the Canucks change owners and management, this proposal wouldn't be of any interest to them.
