He used to be those things. It's buy low because he hasn't been that in like a year now and has regressed each of the last two seasons. Very risky contract for anyone to take on. Hence lower value. Best comparable is probably the Jack Eichel trade.

Jack Eichel is never a good comparable. He clearly wanted out of Buffalo and had a bad neck that he wanted treated with a procedure that was relatively new for athletes and had never been done for a pro hockey player.

So Necas, a buyout bait, a meh prospect and a late 1st for a star 1c? How does that help Vancouver at all?

I'm pretty sure The Nucks are looking for a hockey trade and hope not to miss a beat, not a quality for quantity type thing to throw a white flag on their season.
I would say it helps Vancouver in the sense that Necas is currently playing much better than Pettersson.

I think that Necas deal last year had a bit more context to it. Vancouver was considering going all in.

I think Vancouver had a desire to flip those assets from a Pettersson trade to bring back more players before the deadline. The additional prospect and/or 1st would've been used to target Jake Guentzel and Chris Tanev.

Considering that they got within one-goal of beating Edmonton in 7 games (who themselves went 7 games and one-goal short of beating Florida) and that was with a no-show Pettersson, no Guentzel-type winger, and no Tanev...

Imagine for a moment if their playoff line-up was...Instead of...

Suter-Miller-Boeser
Necas-Lindholm-Guentzel
Joshua-Blueger-Garland
DiGiuseppe-Kotkaniemi-Aman

Hughes-Hronek
Zadorov-Tanev

In theory EP40 could be a good center for Michkov. He had his best season playing with Kuzmenko, and Michkov is kinda similar to Kuzmenko style wise just already better as a 20 year old.

The problem is Flyers have just two players Vancouver could be interested in, and I doubt Philadelphia will trade Sanheim. So it's Konecny, who's 1 year older, $3M cheaper and signed till 2033. TK is one of the best PKer as well. And he's on Team Canada for the 4 Nations.

Will the Flyers agree to move him for EP40, though. I have my doubts.

If we have to rehash the Eichel thing again he had already asked to be traded before showing up at COVID camp injured and then needing the neck thing later.

You have doubts that the flyers would move a ~58 point winger who is about to turn 28 for a career point per game center who just turned 26?

I legitimately feel bad for canucks fans with some of these braindead responses.

Vancouver hockey coverage has begun to out strip the Leaf and Hab stuff - it's constant clickbait.
Clickbait and just repetitive. Repeating the same thing over and over and someone hoping they are proven right.

People who are saying, "no GM says that, he's as good as gone" have such a biased memory it's hilarious.

GM's have said, 'nobody is safe' many time and for many reasons.

In this scenario, they are trying to rattle Petey's cage a bit. Let him know that he needs to step it up and prepare better/differently in the off season.

You don't say something like this about a franchise center and then trade him. Not unless things escalate.

a gm that isn't happy about a key players performance.

You still don't say that lol.

You either want to keep him so you don't piss him off, or you want to trade him, so you don't devalue him. I'm fine with, "We think he can play better." It's the combo of, "We think he can play better and a trade is possible" that's mind-numbingly stupid.

There’s a difference between saying “No one is safe” and “No one is safe, and by the way, this guy needs to be more mature.”

I think Pettersson has it in him to be a Hart level player: an elite offensive threat that plays a 200-foot game. We saw it in 2022-23 and the first half of 2023-24.

But what the hell is wrong with him? It seems like its been non-stop drama for a year now, and he often looks completely disengaged, if not outright sulky.

You mean $11.6M center who scored 1+5 in 13 games in last season's playoffs and who's 13 points behind Konecny right now?

I expected this to be clickbait nonsense but man those quotes are wild. Possibly just working the press to send a message but thats a goofy game to play too.
Why? Many GMs before Allvin have said that nothing is out of the realm of possibility. This isn’t something new that we haven’t seen before.
