This whole Michkov selectiveness and allegedly avoiding certain teams may be nothing more than a nothing burger and likely the result of overextrapolating from Friedman soundbytes that contained a lot of caveats to begin with:

Sounds like Michkov is trying to stay mysterious to create some control over his NHL destination. If teams won't take you unless they know you're interested in coming over, you might as well be highly selective of who you'd meet with in order to have the teams you don't want to join pass on you out of concern. Could be wrong but that's my guess.

Former Caps scout…

Also, it’s more about what Friedman stated in his latest 32-Thoughts podcast

Dear HFHabbers,

Matvei is enjoying life and looking like a boss under the Saudi sun, we love to see it.

Pay no attention to the media pundits they are being fed chicken feed in order to keep them guessing.

Vines historians have no doubt this is one of the best to come out of Russia in years. Late 2004 and aging like fine wine he should be ready in about 3 years, it's worth the wait.

Your sommelier,

Nick Bobrov

I saw a video of Reinbacher and he looked pretty good, He have all the basic tools of a good defenceman, he just needs more strenght in all the body. He's already 6'2" and skate with ease with that tall body. Best scenario he's a new Robinson, if not, well, as new Petry.

Yea. I don't think they'll move up. And more particularly a team ahead of them agreeing to move back. I'm sure they're having the conversations. But in the end, almost surely everyone stays where they are.

If the Habs don't want to take Michkov, then they don't take him at 5. They don't need to give up the assets to move up solely to avoid being in the position to pass on him.
Argument for move up : To pick one of Fantili or Carlsson.
Stay at 5 and if you don't want Michkov you can pick one of Smith, Benson, Reinbacher, Leonard, Dvorsky, Danielson, Moore, Perreault and SandinPelikka. Ok I stop there.

We have not had anyone will Smith's skill level and talent since the 90s.
Hence why a deal with San Jose gives us a a guarantee to draft one of top 3 centers after Bedard, who by most accounts, also happen to be the BPAs (assuming the Habs are skittish about Michkov).

So it's settled then.

We should draft Reinbacher.

“Matvey”, huh? Sounds legit.

So Michkov hails from an Irish pub or something.

So you're telling me that per usual, all these ridiculous tweets and their wild pandering speculation is nothing more than noise and much ado about nothing? That their only use is to divide consensus and are being used to spoonfeed sheep that allow them to use these to prop up their own biases and fears and narratives?

That everything that people read at this time of year should be taken with a huge grain of salt until legitimately confirmed as truth?

Who woulda thunk?

Will you be ready to give up 5th + Hutson + Beck or 5th + Dach for 2nd? Because that's what it'll take. Even 4th will cost an arm to acquire. Pretty much everyone knows Mtl doesn't wanna take Michkov. If they don't wanna pay the price of Dach, Hutson, 5th oa, why not offer slick Nick? May not be a popular opinion here but that that way we can keep the 5th plus all our prospects plus get the 2nd pick.

For what it's worth, you should probably apply that same reasoning to the hype articles that anoint Michkov as the next Gretzky. Especially since basically none of us have seen him play a full game since 2021.

Crazy to say but Smith is underrated.

People here have been shitting on him because they like the idea of Michkov better. I guarantee the majority haven't even seen a Smith highlight video. The guy is one of the most exciting players to watch in this whole draft. And he has the skills and hunger to match. Would not shock me at all if he goes 3rd overall.
