I'm tired of all this speculation and conflicting reports every day on this whole situation. It's doing my head in. I think I need to take a break for a few days. I just wish the draft would arrive already!!
I still want Michkov...I just hope this isn't a character issue.

I think I might understand what you mean though if you're trying to make parallels between current Dubois and future Michkov. If we draft Michkov and he decides to leave when his contract is up and he's still an RFA then that would be an absolute nightmare.

I can see why most Jets fans hate Dubois.

No that's not where I was headed, but I appreciate you attempting to give me a way out. ;) It was just a knee jerk reaction.

As I said, this draft can't come quick enough. I think I've formed Michkov tunnel vision. lol

I really want to draft him. It may be affecting my perspective.

Don’t want to bring that up about Mario without bringing Gretzky up. Gretzky just wanted to get paid and looked for big money after his OHL season. He didn’t care for waiting for the draft and playing in the NHL. His dad Walter’s philosophy was hockey is just a game and you just find whoever pays you for it. So he signed in the WHA with the Indianapolis Racers, was later traded to the Oilers who were also then in the WHA. The Oilers just happened to become an NHL team months later after an expansion. Gretzky never even tried to specifically play in the NHL. Many of the myths about Gretzky were created by a CBC journalist Peter Gzowsky.

Mario didn’t want to be drafted by Pittsburgh. Was ready to boycott the draft. How did that turn out?
Funny how all that was forgotten.
Mario was the first one, to pull a Lindros!! Even before Lindros. lol

That's a massive red flag even if the habs are on that list...

I wouldn't at all be surprised if Hughes passes on him based on this fact alone if true.
The kid is not even in the league, and making those kind of waves??? Seriously? WTF?

And now Mario is practically synonymous with Pittsburgh. The Pens were able to make him change his attitude after the draft, the Nordiques were never able to convince Lindros.

And the decision of Pittsburgh saying f*** it, were still taking Lemieux anyways strongly helped them get or facilitate the transition of Jagr and Malkin who wanted to play where Lemieux played.

i am not sure about this : Being a Russian and live in USA isn’t the best destination considering the geo-political situation. Vancouver,Toronto or Montreal are good places to play hockey
There’s huge Russian populations in NYC and Miami, which is why Russian players gravitate to those locations - and both Panarin & Bobrovsky were very clear about it during their UFA pursuits

Same can’t be said about Mtl…

If Michkov truly doesn't want to play here, try to convince him, and if he's set in his position, tell him to go f*** himself and still pick him then trade him.

Or just pick Benson.

Lol we’re back to “Wright is too smart for junior hockey, it’s not lack of compete that you see with your eyes, it’s just that he isn’t challenged enough (or his teammates suck or his coach suck etc). As if Michkov’s coach would say “yeah he’s a douche”.
What do play style and environment have to do with what I said? After 17 years, suddenly there's a report from a Caps scout saying that this kid is a douche when everything else opposes it.

It was a former coach.

The real red flag now is how he apparently will only talk to teams he's interested in, that's inexcusable.

He ended up loving the states. Still lives there.
Kids… they’re American, Mario sold off his place in Mont Tremblant because he simply never used it

You will never get 5OA draft capital equivalency in compensation via trade after the draft

We should just take the player we want and move on. No need to try and get greedy with a possibility of it biting us in the butt. But definitely tell Mitchy and his people to go F themselves :)

Friedman saying there’s an air of mystery around the league, that Michkov apparently will only meet teams at the draft he’s willing to play for.. a number of teams apparently can’t get assurances he’s willing to talk to them

Starting @ 31:15

How the plot thickens.

What’s the motivation behind it, tight schedule? Arriving only on the last day? Otherwise some may infer negative connotations.

It was reported during the Combine that he was supposed to get there a few days in advance for the interviews.

I just took exception to the “everyone” part. If there is an issue with an individual poster for whatever reason, there are ways of dealing with that. I’m not the arbiter of anything and my opinion doesn’t matter all that much in the grand scheme, so I’ll respect the fact that you guys are more than capable of settling your differences.
I always take offense to posters stepping in and denigrating the entire board coming off as holier than thou. If I see it I will blast it. Funny enough it has nothing to do with me but more to do with the people I do enjoy reading. They pretty much know who they are. :D

Even if all 32 teams want to meet him, which I doubt is the case, I'm sure it's realistically closer to 20...he can't afford 8 hours (15 min x 32) split over a few days?

This is a draft, not free agency lol. Every team has a right to draft him so a prospect saying "I only want to talk to the teams I want to play for" isn't exactly a good look. Even for teams that he wants to play for that want to draft him.
It's not something new under the sun. We are seeing more and more of it with players refusing to sign.

Not if he's interested in making more dough with sponsorships
Two years ago he signed a 5-year contract to play in the KHL at an average of $200K USD per season. One year of NHL base salary plus his signing bonus would be more $ than that entire 5-year contract. Either "making more dough" isn't a priority, MM and his financial advisors are really dumb, or they felt they had to sign the KHL contract for other reasons.

Either you manage to convince him to play for the Flyers (see Lemieux/Pens) or you flip him for top value (Lindros/Nordiques).
You're not getting top trade value for someone who won't be here for at least 3 years and has never played North American hockey. Not to mention Lindros was viewed as a far better prospect (the Next One).

Wants to play with OV. not surprised.
OV could be retired and in the Hall of Fame by the time MM makes it over here.

Mario didn’t want to be drafted by Pittsburgh. Was ready to boycott the draft. How did that turn out?
Mario wasn't under long-term contract with a KHL team. Also Mario was the most talented player I've ever seen and worth any sort of short-term anguish.

Jagr talked to everyone, he just told them he wouldn't come over right away if they drafted him with the exception of Pittsburgh.
Jagr ended up playing for half the teams in the NHL. LOL!

You will never get 5OA draft capital equivalency in compensation via trade after the draft
Bingo! Especially given all the mystery and uncertainty.
