Wright was floating in the OHL his draft year and would avoid traffic completely. He mailed in his back checking in February. Michkov has lapses in his defensive game. He is a bit slow to react when his team loses the puck. That is a problem that needs to be fixed. But once he gets going, he’ll backcheck seriously. He’ll take his guy and his stick. No half assed effort like Wright who was playing the Center position and his role was much more crucial defensively.

Least we mention, Wright played against teens while Michkov played against men.

I meant posters inventing every possible explanation instead of going for the simplest one.

Is it really hard to believe a super talented kid could have a diva attitude like Yakupov (but with actual talent this time).

No prospect this year packed it in like Wright seemed to do last year in the OHL. I am not a fan of Smith’s backcheck. He hunches over and crouches over his stick. He doesn’t look like he’s skating as hard as on the attack. He’s a Center like Wright... However, the emphasis for Smith is disproportionately on the attack. That needs to be tweaked. But when Smith goes to the bench, he’s tired. When Wright went to the bench, it was more to let the other line play. He was rarely gassed and could have played 2 more minutes without going off.

I agree that it’s the simplest explanation. I went on a Russian site and in the comments on that story, a poster said he had become a diva « like Yakupov. »

Is that same red flag attached to Dubois?

He's showing up to camp next year and told Winnipeg he won't extend with them so he is seeing through his contract.

Where's the red flag?

To me this is more closer to the Lindros situation (talent aside) where he clearly states he wants to only talk to teams he wants to play for...what happens when another team not on the list drafts him?

Have you seen taxes in California?

goes to NY, pays like 45% tax on 2m$ and forks out 8k a month in rent for 800sq/ft…lol

think he goes wherever he’s drafted.

I guess we will see where the top, players sign. Canada or the US

Seen some talk on Facebook Habs may offer Mailloux in package to move up
If information that’s coming out is accurate and Michkov has no interest playing for Habs, and Ana is actually open to moving down.. I’d overpay for Fantilli

This years pick has to be a high confidence top line projected prospect for next 10-years in NHL

Well he gave a short list to the teams he's willing to play for. Winnipeg clearly not being one of them. It's in that regard I'm comparing them. I realize Dubois has earned that right however.

That's a very bad sign.

I said it was a red flag but the Michkov fan boys are out in full force either justifying why he said this or trying to explain why it's a good thing he only wants to talk to the teams he wants to play for.

edit: for the record, if Michkov on the board at 5, I agree in him being the clear BPA. I just don't like that an undrafted kid is trying to dictate where he goes.

Then why bring it up? lol

This is closer to the Lindros situation...or as the guy above mentioned, Lemieux which turned out well.

I prefer a player that talks to everyone, it’s definitely a red flag. But there are exceptions. Jagr only wanted to play in Pittsburgh with Lemieux. Once in the NHL, he always was a good team guy.

I'm as fanboy of Michkov's as they come but I can see why Habs wouldn't want to draft him, especially that they're reportedly putting so much weight on a players personality.

As with Wright last year and his leering at the Habs table when he got drasfted, I could see why they passed on him and I can see the same with Michkov now.

Because it's similar in the sense he only wants to play for certain teams, this is fact. We don't even know if this report on Michkov is true.

Do we?

I mean Friedman literally used the term "air of mystery."

It's similar but the fact that one is an NHL veteran at this point and the other one is undrafted makes it ridiculous to even compare their situations lol

Like I said, I think you could have used other examples involving undrafted prospects but we can agree to disagree.

No that's fair. I acknowledged he's earned that right. It was just the first thing that popped in my head.

I do question the validity of Friedman's thoughts though.

Jagr talked to everyone, he just told them he wouldn't come over right away if they drafted him with the exception of Pittsburgh.

I still want Michkov...I just hope this isn't a character issue.

I think I understand why your brain jumped to Dubois...I can definitely see potential parallels between current Dubois and future Michkov. Imagine drafting Michkov and he decides to leave when his contract is up and he's still an RFA then that would be an absolute nightmare.

I can see why most Jets fans hate Dubois.
