His skating is ok, certainly not great. It is not a strength at this point but should not be a problem either, the comparison to Hughes and Barzal are idiotic but for some reason we are listening to a ridiculous play by play guy lol.

I have been a fan of Smith's for a while and think his upside is really high, his greatest strength with regards to how he uses motion to create offence is deception and anticipation. He has decent speed but mechanically he is quite flawed, if he can straighten out his mechanics, specifically ankle flexion and a little deeper knee bend then he can really take a step forward but these things are just so difficult to predict. It is hard to say if these are biomechanical issues or if they are more lower body strength related without working with him personally.

Comparing him to such explosive and incredibly dynamic skaters like Hughes and Barzal is to be expected from a play by play guy who views the game through a layman's lens.
That's what I though, never saw the skating of a Barzal/Hughes the times I saw him play. I mean those guys are probably the best skaters after McJesus.

For those impatient posters who are expecting a playoff team next year…well da boss says to be (more) patient.Le Canadien | Une reconstruction est nécessaire pour gagner, selon Geoff Molson
Fine by me

But the habs are entering the involuntary playoff zone next year. I feel like so many teams seem to be quicker to pull the tanking than before.

I hope Ottawa and Detroit keep improving. I expect the bruins to go on a re-tool, leafs are trading some skill, so they might have to fight more. Panthers are gonna go back to the top, Tampa should be on par with this season.

Can’t be sure of anything. It rarely goes how we thought it would!

What do you drive? :skeptic:
1999 civic SI coupe Automatic. Its in for Steering rack, Gas lines, Motor Mount and Oil pan leak. Other than that it's mint ToBeHonest.. Ima kinda pissed hes taking so long.

This is either the Russian version of a hockey combine or a scenario as murky as Michkov’s availability to the NHL team that ends up drafting him.

:sarcasm:

What the F is that bear even doing? Is he those russians hype man? Like wtf!@

I had a feeling it had a rustic quality about it. Congrats on squeezing the most of this car. I had a Nissan Sentra for 13 years, bought at the start of my first job out of Bachelor's, then extended beyond original plans due to two returns to grad school, at 26 for my MS and 32 for my PhD. It had a few dings and rust to the point that it undermined the frame of the car. In the end it was so ugly that if I went to a surprise party, I had to park several streets away not to reveal the secret.

Sorry to derail the thread. I have a blackbelt in thread derailment.

Swedish players are made differently, every young top prospect from Sweden has dominated in the NHL. the chances he bust are like less than 1%?

That likely wouldn't help Quebec develop more NHLers just like there is little evidence that the USNDTP is developing NHLers who wouldn't have become NHLers anyways. Rounding up the top talent to play on one team is entirely geared towards international success as these kids will have grown together and that will be of benefit well into their professional careers. The U.S. has an advantage at every tournament entirely based on the USNDTP while other top nations are throwing together team's at the last minute.

If Quebec wants to develop more players then build more arena's and make the game more accessible to lower income families.

Interesting statement and i decided to check. Top 6 drafted swedish players since 2005. I went for top 6 to have more names top 5 was a bit too restrictive.

Nicklas Backstrom
Victor Hedman
Adam Larsson
Oliver Ekman-Larsson
Mika Zibanejad
Hampus Lindholm
Elias Lindholm
Elias Pettersson
Rasmus Dahlin
Lucas Raymond
Simon Edvinsson (2021 turned 20 yo in feb and loking good so far)

Not all superstars but not real flop either all solid players. Pretty impressive track record i'd say.

Lias Andersson (Gorton’s top-10 pick w NYR) and last one is Adam Boqvist. Not sure of middle one - William Karlsson??
William Karlsson is certainly not a bust he's a very good player for a 2nd round pick. It's a little bit too soon to call Adam Boqvist a bust dmen often take longer to fully develop and he was 22 this season.

Well look at this, amongst the 18 years olds who produced alot during the same year in both the regular season and in the playoffs combined there's only Carlsson, Sedin, Sedin and Sundin.

Sundin: 1349 Pts in the NHL
Sedin: 1070
Sedin: 1041

This guy is being massively underrated, he could easely develop into a franchise player, a strong 2-way, playmaker.

Hugo better try everything they can to acquire him, he's the perfect fit for us.

It’s Alex Nylander.
I prayed we didn’t pick him in the Sergachev draft. Could smell the bust all the way across the ocean.

Still praying for either Michkov or Carlsson, but I’m fine with Smith. Where do you guys think Smith would go in last year’s draft?
