what evidence do you need? the kid left his lid on during the anthem to protest the opposing team. how much further do you need walked to the point?

You think he believes himself to be a Canadian patriot because of his action? Where the hell does this come from? Did he say this at any point?

And that this is reflective of our times? How many people are applauding his actions?

You clearly enjoy editorializing but maybe leave the mind-reading to the psychics.

Oh, my God. In the Russian social media fans try to support the kid, assuming it was just an unintentional mistake. Canadian fans seem to want their captain to be torn apart. When Kovalchuk in his 30s led the the Russian team to a dressing room after loss to Canada ignoring their National anthem that was a disaster. These guys are just teenagers. Let it be a lesson, but no tragedy here.

Well, they handled this with class.

They didn't punch him in the handshake line or anything.

I wouldn't call relishing the opportunity to gloat and humiliate someone they just eviscerated very classy. They won 6-0 and handed Canada its biggest loss ever at the tournament.

Classy move would have been to let it go, not care about a player not removing their helmet. Russia's behaviour at these tournaments has been deplorable on many occasions. I wouldn't feel the same way if say the Swiss felt disrespected by similar behaviour.

It's not like it's the Kennedy assassination video.

He either has his helmet on for the entire song or he doesn't. There's no speculation as to whether it was on or not.

My bad, I didn't have the sound on originally and didn't realize Denisenko going over to talk to the ref was after the anthem was already finished.

It wasn't unintentional.

I like how the Russians aren't classy because our player left his helmet on during the anthems.

Yeah, I mean personally I don't think it makes Hayton a clearly classless person, but if anyone is showing a lack of class here it's him, not somehow the Russians.

The happy middle ground is a sincere and short apology.

Not suspending him as Captain or raking him over the coals.

And not "who cares, it's only a song".

If he took off his helmet he would have immediately have to leave the ice per IIHF rules. The Russians would have been more pissed about him not being on the ice for the anthyms :sarcasm:

He'll learn. I'm fine with the Russians not shaking his hand, quick way to teach him.

I completely agree for the NHL, but why not for stuff like this? They are representing their country after all.

I'm just not a huge fan of how they do the anthems, only playing the anthem of the winning team after the game.....rather than playing the anthems of both teams before the game.

there's no need to editorialize. this was mimicry of anthem protests that children of his generation have grown up either interpreting as brave or highly disrespectful depending upon their leanings. for him to apply this tactic at this specific time is no coincidence. again, how much more assistance do you need?

Probably just trying to hide the fact that he was part of Team Canada after that performance
