I guess the only issue I see here is that he’s the captain, gotta be more responsible than that. Otherwise I wouldn’t make a big story out of this

every game night he removes his helmet for the anthems at his OHL games last year and this year for his few NHL games he played.

So today, either he wanted to be a jerk and piss off the Russians or he forgot which seems unlikely.. Maybe he should focus on his game because he was lousy today as well as being a poor choice for captain!

Would expect Hockey Canada, along with every other nation to instruct their players before the tournament about the customs and procedures that are expected of them.

So, either a failure by Hockey Canada or a bad mistake by Hayton.

Considering he's been on 2 international squads before, played a game two days ago where he did remove his helmet and was in a line with his whole team who did remove their helmets, that was 100% Hayton being a disrespectful kid. The fact that it is for a round robin loss makes it even more childish.

Yes, he was wrong. May be he just forgot to do it. As a Russian I don't feel any offense. Too much pressure on this kid. Too much attention to the episode.
Really? Didn't notice 40 other guys taking their lids off? He's only done it hundreds of times since he started playing hockey. It was a very poor choice and he should apologize. Then everyone should move on.

It doesn't really matter why.

It happened, it's disrespectful, it's an apology.

Isn't really making Peterborough or Canada look to great on the world stage. In the end though, I'm going to chalk this up to him being emotional and frustrated after being blown out, and not trying to be a disrespectful POS. I don't think the kid should get trashed for it, but he needs to know better than that

Bad look. Optics of it make it come across as petty. Not going to lose my mind over it though, a 19-year-old made a mistake either by aloofness or bad judgment. It happens.

Yeah I saw one of the Russian players skating and arguing towards the ref after the anthem and wondered if a Canadian player did something
Did they all refuse to shake his hand in the lineup too? That's a good way to handle it. If he was just oblivious and forgot, it's a good reminder to him. If he did it intentionally, it'll get under his skin extra that they all counter-dissed him in the line. I like that response by the Russians. :handclap:

For what it's worth, it never occurred to me to think about Peterborough, so don't worry.

If that is the case, send him to follow concussion protocol now.

Maybe he didn’t realize the anthem was going to be played, seeing as how all the cheaters (excuse me, Russians) won’t even be recognized as a nation at all other international competitions?

Do I really need a sarcasm emoji?
