Well, as said, Canada is a very nice country filled with very nice people - as all the arrogance and aggression is channelled into a little known team sport. It's not good for your mentality to be a superpower in anything... I mean I think it's already known, agreed and admitted that Canada has immense depth compared with other countries. It's not really that cool even. This actually makes the sport rather inferior as an international competition compared with soccer for example. It would be great if Canada's best team would not have a realistic chance in this kind of matchup.

Agree with your psychoanalysis.

Except I like being a superpower. It's only an ultimately meaningless game, not real life, so no harm done.

We should have a world vs Canada all star game lol. 50% of the NHL is Canadian, 50% isn't.

Just do itttttttttttt

And it would be so exciting... :shakehead 12 year old kids might enjoy it... What's the point with pointless games...?

Agreed. I never watch the all-star game. I have better things to do than watch useless fake-hockey. Even the skills competitions are way more interesting than the game. Maybe they should expand those instead.

im gonna try a rest of the world team sort of

Ovechkin - Malkin - Kane
Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Kessel
Parise - Kopitar - Kovalchuck
Daniel Sedin - Backstrom/Henrik Sedin - Zetterberg

Chara - Karlsson
Edler - Yandle
Kronwall - Suter

-OEL

Lundqvist
Rask

Including the big names i forgot

I don't want to talk about this much BEFORE a gold medal game but looking at that line up Canada is not far off at all. I think their defense beats the worlds for sure. Goaltending would be close, Price and Luongo as I have said for a long time are elite goalies in the NHL.

Canada has 4 centers as good as the world's centers. Not to mention Stamkos is not on this team, adding him makes a roster look a whole lot nicer. Yeah no doubt they could win, this has been discussed since the 1990s and each time I'll say the same thing, Canada could win.

You're not quoting the best world-lineup. There was a better one in someone else's post. That said, of course Canada would have a chance. The all-world team simply would have a better chance, even with the current downswing of Finnish, Czech and Slovakian talent.

Few days ago Canada A team went to overtime against Finland B team... where do people like you come from?

That's not at all relevant to the question. Canada just controlled 3 periods of hockey against a team that is quite possibly the 2nd best team right now. A world team would try to attack Canada like the USA did yesterday. That plays into our hands. We struggle with teams that stack five across the Blueline for 60 mins.

An all world lineup would like this?

Ovie-Malkin-Kessel
Sedin-Sedin-Kane
Kovy-Dats-Selanne
Zetterberg-Kopitar-Jagr
Krejci-Hossa

OEL-Karlsson
Suter-Kronwall
Markov-Timonen
McDonagh-Chara

Quick
Lundqvist
Rask

When I think of a a 'Team World', it's basically Team USA with a few replacements (Ovechkin, Malkin, Lundqvist, etc).

Considering Canada and USA are usually as evenly matched as they come, I'd say it'd still be close but Team World would have the edge.

I'm thinking the Canadian hockey team could actually beat the Seattle Seahawks - even with their skates on. There is just no doubt that this one goal victory (over an average, unmotivated US squad) -even after not medalling in the WJC- established their overwhelming inherent superiority forever and ever.

All hail our Canadian hockey overlords!!

That line-up is better than Canada's no doubt. Canada would be the underdog in that game.

I know you're being sarcastic and yes, this thread is pretty idiotic, but to call the US team unmotivated is stupid. They all came to play. How can you not wake up to face Canada in an elimination game? I don't know if you know this, but the Canadian team is pretty good. Sometimes good teams can make other good teams look bad.

I'm just wondering why Team Canada doesn't stop off in the Middle East on the way home and broker and enable a sustainable and equitable peace, starting in Syria and then focus on the Israeli/Palestinian issue.

Let's see what this might look like

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kane
Kovalchuk-Malkin-Datsyuk
Zetterberg-Kopitar-Kessel

I'm just going to stop right there. It would just be so unbelievable stacked that a lineup of the best Canadians in the last 20 years probably couldn't keep up.

The best of Canada from the last 20 years? from 1994 to now? would oblitirate the world team Above :yo: ofcourse we are talking about and assuming the players are at their capacity from 1994 onwards. ex, Gretzky of the 90s not the 80s (though he is still top 3 in the world in the 90s :naughty:)

lindros Lemieux Crosby
Sakic Gretzky Shanahan
toews Yzerman Bergeron
Stamkos Thorton Iginla

Pronger Niedermayer
Weber Blake
Doughty Bourque

Roy
Brodeur
Belfour

Reserves
Adam Oates, Mark Recchi, Doug Gilmour, ron francis, paul kariya
Scotts Stevens, al mcinnis
Roberto luongo

So even AHL level team could shut down Canada A team when playing defensive game. And your faith in Canada winning World team would be because of Canadas defense and counter attack game. So immediately canada would take underdog status in your papers tells everything about the matchup.

From a purely hockey standpoint, it is an interesting question because of the depth of the Canadian team and how they would match up player to player. I think if you look at the potential line-ups Canada is good enough to compete against an all-world team.

But then you have people come into the thread and make smart ass comment about brokering world peace and playing the Seahawks, simply because they lack the hockey knowledge or understanding to create a reasonable argument against the match-ups that could occur in such a game.

All of the world's top players are close. I would make the argument that the US team could also defeat an all-world team in a one game situation. But then I would have to start making up lame, weak and pointless posts about that American team playing a football team or solving problems in the Middle East I guess, in order to cover for my lack of original thought.

well of course, Russia or Sweden could also beat the world, whats the point of this?

Its all hypotetical. The fact is Canada went to overtime against Finland B team. Toss your scenarios off the window that happened in real world february 2014.
