Have to see some lineup examples. Chara the beast, Karlsson, Suter, Rask, Kane, Parise, Kesler, Hossa, Krejci, etc. It's gonna be pretty hard.

Don't get cocky, Canada.

Of course it would be very difficult, nobody denies that. You only need to put together a team of 18 players and Canada has probably close to a hundred of Olympic-level players.

Canada could have lost to the US today, and could very well lose to Sweden Sunday. They could beat a tea made up of the rest of the world, but more likely in a one-and-done game than a series.

World goalies: Quick, Rask, Lundqvist

World defense: Suter, Karlsson, Chara, Kronwall, OEL, McDonagh, Voynov

World offense: Ovechkin, Malkin, Kessel, Kane, Kesler, Sedin, Sedin, Parise, Vanek, Steen, Backstrom, Kopitar, Datsyuk, Zetterberg

That's just off the top of my head. That defense is incredible, and that offense is way better than Canada's.

Let's see what this might look like

Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kane
Kovalchuk-Malkin-Datsyuk
Zetterberg-Kopitar-Kessel

I'm just going to stop right there. It would just be so unbelievable stacked that a lineup of the best Canadians in the last 20 years probably couldn't keep up.

Canada's defense is still better. Offense of the world team is better but you'll need a few two-way players on the 3rd and 4th line. Can't have everybody rushing up the ice to score goals. Offensive talent would be wasted with 10mins of ice time. Either way, that world team wouldn't be significantly better than Canada.

On paper Canada has by far the best team in the Olympics but hockey is played on ice. That World team may seem amazing on paper but nobody knows if they would even be better than team USA or Canada.

Datsyuk, Kesler, Zetterberg, Kopitar, Parise - these guys aren't slouches when it comes to two-way play.

Imagine the power play.

It's true, there is no telling how the team would gel on the ice. But that amount of talent, over a seven game series, I think would come out on top. Canada would still be competitive, and I think could very well win a one game championship.

I think that international team would be pretty solid. It'd all come down to how quickly they gel and where the games are played (ice size etc).

Assuming we're talking about two teams that have time to practice and train a bit together instead of just being thrown together then...

Canada is good but not that good (we haven't even beaten the Swedes yet).

But if you took all those great "world" players and slapped them together and asked them to play Canada tomorrow, I suspect Canada would win.

Yes, because Canada's number one players at every position match up pretty well against every non-Canadian player at that position.

Or, we could lose to Latvia.

If you take the top 20 players from Canada or anywhere, it is going to be close enough that I would not bet my life on it.

Yes, I think it'd be fairly even.
Giroux-Crosby-Stamkos vs. Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kane
Benn-Getzlaf-Perry vs. Kovalchuk-Malkin-Datsyuk
Hall-Tavares-Carter vs. Zetterberg-Kopitar-Kessel
Marleau-Toews-Bergeron vs. D. Sedin-H. Sedin-Hossa

Keith-Weber vs. Chara-Karlsson
Vlasic-Doughty vs. Suter-McDonaugh
Subban-Petro vs. OEL- Kronwall

The advantage in net sides with the world, but in one game Price (and Luongo) are talented enough to outplay the other guy

Then the question is: Could Sweden beat a team made up of the rest of the world??!!

Well, if they beat Canada, and Canada could beat a World team, then Sweden would stomp World.

Or Latvia could almost beat everybody.

This is so funny. We see 8 seeds knock off 1 seeds all the time in a best 4 of 7 series, and yet some of you think it's impossible that Canada could win this series?

Center Depth: Can
Winger depth: World
Top 6: Wash
Bottom 6: World
Top 4 D: Can
D depth: World
Starting Goalie: Wash
Goalie Depth: World

It would be a battle that would be a series of 1-goal games one way or the other.

As long as the World doesn't have Russian or Czech coaching....
