You know when you are a kid and there is that weird kid who brags to you about having something unimpressive or that you didn't want, usually in a weird voice and at an inopportune time? This thread had encapsulated that second hand embarrassment over the last page or so.

If only there were some way to stop reading this thread. Maybe go do something else?

When Canada wins, its business as usual. I can't even get excited about it. We were expected to win. We have Bedard who popped off. We da best. It's more fun to root for the underdog but yeah. GGs

You can combine registered players of Finland, Sweden, Russia, Czechia and Canada still has more. And since you like to talk about history, Soviet Union+Russia is pretty much on par with Canada in medals so i don't know about that massive lead you're talking about.

they aren’t on par even if you include the Soviet Union/Russia (which is dumb in its own regard).

At the WJC:
Canada: 20
Soviet Union/Russia: 13

At the Olympics:
Canada: 16
Soviet Union/Russia: 11

At the World Cup:
Canada: 2
Russia : 0

Total:
Canada: 38
SU/Russia: 24

You’ve got one hell of a weird definition of “on par”.

But using that logic the US should by far be the best hockey country in the world because they have 10x the population and money as Canada, but they aren’t the best.

Fact is Canada is dominating, the simple fact is if you win much more than everyone else = you’re dominating.
Ever think that maybe there are other things to do in the USA and other sports to play?
How many Canadians in the MLB, NBA and NFL? LOL
Neat, you domintate ONE sport, here's a cookie.

Canadian program is nothing special, it's actually worse than many other programs. Fact is that your pool of junior players is ~10 times bigger than any other countries (except for USA).

These Bedards and McDavids has nothing to do with Canadian program. Every year when Canada doesn't win, it's just a catastrophe. Two OT wins now in a row, but win's a win. Congratulations!
A lot of junior players in Canada play it recreationally with no intent to continue on. They play because it is so competitive and the fact it draws so many people is a testament to it's strength. The depth of skill is still however considerable. It could field many teams that could beat Team Finland on any given day.
There are more Canadians playing in the KHL than there are Russians playing in the NHL (at least that was the case pre-covid).

Yeah and the NHL cast off routinely end up top players in the KHL while many KHL stars flame out in the NHL..

It’s really weird trying to say the Canadian program “isn’t all that great” when they simply just mop the floor with everyone else.

You mean the tournament where Canada sends their like D squad and players consistently turn down even attending…?
Jesus christ  That's been the trend for the past few years, before it was different. You Canadians always find the way to cherrypick, win or lose we sUpErIoR and DoMiNaTiNg, well enjoy, you clearly need that boost.

Not to me. The east coast aspect made it special. Heave Away. It being in Halifax. I get it if you're from middle or western canada it just feels like another world juniors. But we really wanted to win this thing out east.

It’s really never been the trend.

Name me a time, maybe outside of 2005, where Canada has sent anywhere close to their best?

Also even if you want to include that, Canada is still tied in medals with Russia at that tournament despite routinely sending some very mediocre (by Canadian standard) players to go play against Russias best.

Canada is pretty dominant in curling.
Traditionally played with a 5th end that requires manners and sportsmanship after the game where the winner buys beer for the loser.
Pretty sure this game would be foreign in your parts.

Post Canada gold bingo - fill out your bingo cards!

View attachment 631238

1. More registered players.

2. Favourable referees.

3. Hosting all the time.

4. Cheap / illegal play.

5. Announcers pronouncing names wrong.

6. NHL teams withholding player participation.

7. Something to do with WW II.

8. IIHF decisions that are actually made by Canada.

9. Endless pots of gold for all kinds of bribery options.

10. If other countries took hockey seriously Canada would never win anything.

11. Russia.

12. Hockey Canada scandal.

Hosting most of the time is about right your other points sound juvenile.
anything else i can help you with?

13. Complaining about the bingo.

You should spend more time around here.

All of those points have been raised by the fans of other teams in the past.

And I'm glad Canada won, I'm a hockey fan, not a team USA homer just because I live here.
Kraken fan, so was rooting for Captain Shane and the other FOUR Seattle Thunderbirds.

Great tournament. The chaos and timing of the holiday season are what make it the best sporting event of the year, bar none. Like Bob McKenzie said the competition at this tournament was the best he's seen. The Slovaks & Czechs fielded great rosters and certainly erased any doubts that not having Russia may drag on the quality of the games. Outside of Austria, every team looked like they belonged. Hope Russia is reinstated soon, but that's for another discussion.

Congrats to the Czech Republic on your first medal since 2005, love to see some new flags raised at the end! Canada...what a classic. I didn't sit for either game.

It's the most wonderful time of the year

13. No clothes dryer in the Russian dressing room.

14. Russian team had to walk 100 yards from the bus to the rink.

15. Canada’s dressing room in Canada is better than everyone else’s.

16. Canada always plays the late game in Canada.

17. Canada, just because.
you forgot one ply toilet paper.hilarious.

Dude is like our token Leaf fan: Showing up in GDT his team isn't playing in, making it about him, and embarrassing himself.

I love the Jim Lahey looking avi mate, it matches the comments perfectly. Certainly you can't be buckled this whole time, but your effort and attention to detail is outstanding. Thanks for this.
