they aren’t on par even if you include the Soviet Union/Russia (which is dumb in its own regard).

At the WJC:
Canada: 20
Soviet Union/Russia: 13

At the Olympics:
Canada: 16
Soviet Union/Russia: 11

At the World Cup:
Canada: 2
Russia : 0

Total:
Canada: 38
SU/Russia: 24

You’ve got one hell of a weird definition of “on par”.
WJC, Canada for many years sent Memorial cup teams.
Olympics, Canada for many years sent amateurs.
The 72 Series where out of shape NHL players beat a well oiled Soviet team on hostel ice defined Canadian hockey for ever.

Canada is pretty dominant in curling.
Traditionally played with a 5th end that requires manners and sportsmanship after the game where the winner buys beer for the loser.
Pretty sure this game would be foreign in your parts.
I wouldn't call Canada dominant at curling. The men's side had a run for a decade but that's long gone now.

It’s really never been the trend.

Name me a time, maybe outside of 2005, where Canada has sent anywhere close to their best?

Also even if you want to include that, Canada is still tied in medals with Russia at that tournament despite routinely sending some very mediocre (by Canadian standard) players to go play against Russias best.
Sure. Between 2010-17 (7 years) when Canada was toyed with at the U20 level by Americans, Finns and Swedes you didn't see anyone claiming that they are superior at the U20 level, it's your thing. Which is odd because you should 't have any need to prove that you're the best. Yet these same people are (after every win) like a broken record and pulling that Team Canada CV up downplaying every other nation, it's just odd.

You win, fair play. It's just straight up embarassing when these same dudes come and have to post that we the best, or if you lose, same thing or then you had your b team. Americans never do that, but i guess they don't have the urge to prove everyone that we are something.

Imagine bringing up the WHC where Canada still has won 27 times and 3 of the last 7 tournaments while not sending anywhere close to our best and thinking that is proving your point. Rough. The last decade at the WHC
Canada has 3 Gold 3 Silver 0 Bronze.
Russia has 2 Gold 1 Silver 3 Bronze
Finland has 2 Gold 3 Silver 0 Bronze.
Sweden has 3 Gold 0 Silver 1 Bronze.

Catch up.

Generally the team tieing it late has the momentum in OT but the Czechs were nervous and gripping their sticks too tight. 3 on 3 all it takes is one little puck bobble.

We've beat you many times during recent years, your excuses were equally fun to listen. Were you one of them who sent hate email to the stick manufacturers?

These same mouthbreathers have been pain in my back for the past few years, win or lose. Always same mantra about Canada being superior, even if they get their asses kicked.
Canada is superior in hockey even though some of it's teams have not been. Usually a function of poor player selection though. That is not meant to detract from some of the other considerable skill abroad. Hockey is a team sport however and the number of good players are just too many to overcome in most cases. It is one of the most difficult sports to master and takes many years to do so. If you aren't on skates by 6 years old, you very likely won't be that great. That requires a parental respect for the game and facing a rather expensive cost of entering one's child before they show any athletic acumen.

Yea.

Like I said, no matter how you shake it, Canada has dominated hockey.

Dude is like our token Leaf fan: Showing up in GDT his team isn't playing in, making it about him, and embarrassing himself.

I love the Jim Lahey looking avi mate, it matches the comments perfectly. Certainly you can't be buckled this whole time, but your effort and attention to detail is outstanding. Thanks for this.
Canadian fans are embarassing, it's always good to see you guys coming down from your ivory tower to discuss with us mortals. I remember your tears aswell from the past years, now it's time to celebrate so enjoy

As the stats show, we win a WHOLE bunch more than anyone else.

I know that hurts your feelings to admit, but facts are facts

Yeah I mean it's just bad faith. That guy knows what "best on best" means and he's deliberately ignoring it. I choose not to engage such a person and I highly suggest it.

A whole 7 years in the history of the tournament?? Wow!

What about all the other years?

Also the Americans never do it because they rarely win. Kinda hard to claim “we the best” when that’s the case.

Halifax is one of the best-kept secrets in Canada. Great town.
Was great to see the house packed even for 2 foreign teams playing. Had some Euro-vibes with the chanting and energy. Something special which isn't really the same even for NHL playoffs.

Congrats to Czechia on the great tournament and gold medal game. Outstanding performance. For me, seeing the goalie at the end was gut wrenching. He gave them a chance to win, and was just cm from making an unreal glove save.
Certainly many of those young men will go on to pro and national team success! 👏

Canada used to regard international play as almost beneath us so we didn't participate. It was like kids in high school were having a basketball tournament, so why send in Curry, LeBron, Jordan, Bird and Kobe? There was nothing to prove. I know that is arrogant, but we were that good. The rest of the world didn't really show up until 1972, and that is the first time we started participating in worldwide events to win them. Even then, when the Soviets and Czechs were icing professional teams disguised as amateur because of communism, we sent players who were not even AHL quality a lot of times.

In true best on best, we are rarely defeated. The Americans are currently the only other nation that really poses a threat to our dominance in this sport. Russia, Sweden, Finland...sure on any given day they can beat us in a best on best game. But if international hockey was currently a league. it would look like what the Bruins are doing in the NHL right now, and we'd walk away with the Stanley Cup 80-90% of the time.

Those numbers mean nothing. If we truly sent our best, every other team would be in small single digits and have more zeroes than anything.

damn, I really did embarrass myself here!

Honestly enjoyed it all, especially the facts. Like how registered player counts somehow undermine dominance in a sport. Gotta scratch your head because in that regard all of Czechia + Canada is still less than USA. Not to mention what that says about USA dominance of basketball with 20-some million more registered players than any other nation. 🥴

Probably because it rarely features all of the best players but that's just a theory.
That’s a real hard one for the Canada haters to admit.

i know I’m in agreement with you.

I was showing that even when you include the absolute best of Russia/Soviet Union they still come up way behind Canada.

There’s no one close right now. It’s like you said in short tournaments there will be countries who can beat Canada here and there, but as a whole Canada is still way ahead of everyone else
