Canada also gets huge advantage on this tournament they have hosted 10 of the last 20 tournaments. I can only imagine how many gold medals Finland would have if we had the same we hosted 2 of the 20 or Sweden or Usa or Russia or Czechia etc...
Hosting in Canada is a double-edged sword. It's great to have the crowd behind you, but the pressure is almost unbearable for some players, even seasoned veterans. A guy I know on the world championship national team a few years back said half the players were throwing up before the final game. These are guys who have played huge games all their lives, throwing up because they are so nervous. I think it's almost a curse to host a lot of the time.

Worth noting that Fantilli was trusted to take a shift in the overtime. He dropped down to the fourth line early in the tournament but really excelled in that role, and I do not mean that as any sort of backhanded compliment. Not all players in his position, undrafted but highly hyped, can do that. He was consistently very good on the forecheck and backcheck and did look dangerous on a line that didn't really look to score all that often. Credit to him for finding a way to contribute in a role he's probably never had before.

Means nothing, he is playing against mostly people who won't sniff the NHL, and even the big ones who can skate made him obsolete.

He, like Yakupov, preys on slow and clownish defencemen in the O where 95% of the kids will never sniff the NHL. Yakupov got drafted first overall playing the same style game as Bedard.

When the going gets tough, he disappears into nothingness. When people can match him stride for stride, he is ineffective at best.

There is no trolling going on here. He does not have the speed to allow his style to succeed at the NHL level. He is going to be the biggest bust since Yakupov, and probably bigger since he has way more hype.
He doesn’t play in the OHL.

Are you… are you sure you know which guy you’re talking about here?

He looked loose, full of energy, confident and strong. I like his future, and I mean a LOT.

He improved tremendously as the tournament went on. Maybe it was trying to pull off some of the magic Bedard was pulling out of his ass at first, but he simplified his game and let his tools shine instead in the later games.

The speed he plays at definitely helps in 3v3 as well.

Jiricek is a big boy. Looks a little overweight. He shall be known as Chubby Czecher.

I think he’s talking about Yamamoto. A useless overpaid soft 4th line forward. ;)
Yamamoto also didn’t play in the OHL 😂

Definitely agree on the useless overpaid soft 4th line forward part though

Hats off to Czechia, those kids played their hearts out.

This might be the dumbest shit I’ve ever read on these boards.

I missed overtime, and I just saw the GWG replay.

I am happy Canada won but I am a bid concerned
Did they really decided the gold medal game on shitty 3v3 Hockey gimmick?

Since you think hes going to bust.

Pretty much confirms that hes a surefire franchise player.

He also doesnt play in the OHL.

You haven't seen his other posts I take it.

The Czech team was amazing. If they had been in the Moncton pool and played the USA for gold they would have been huge fan favorites. Lots of great young talent, especially on D.

At the end of the day Canada had the most dominant offensive player in the tournament. Unfortunately for the previously mentioned excellent Czech D, even after they shut him down Canada literally had two other NHL forwards to carry them.

I say this often. But if I have to read about the 2005 world Junior team.. then I think the 2005 world championships has to count as a best on best for the exact same reason the 2005 jr team is heralded. Everyone was available.

Canada has 3 back to back best on bests and back to back world Juniors... 6 of 7 Skoda cup finals too.
That 05 world junior team was Canada's best roster ever. Crosby, Bergeron, Carter, Perry, Getzlaf, Mike Richards, Dion Phaneuf... Can't believe Canada left Crosby out of the olympics in Torino in 2006. lol They got destroyed if I remember.

Bedard goes pointless for one game and all of a sudden the sky is falling. He certainly made #2 OA pick Simon Nemec look like a pylon in the OT goal in the Quarters…
