I fully expect Doughty to refuse, but he's the best available defenceman and he has only played the tournament once. His recent quotes clearly indicate that he just wants the season to be over. Remote possibility that he wants to end on a more positive note. I'd say the chances that he plays are no more than 5%.

I've been high on Reinhart for quite some time. Very smart player. As noted not speedy, but that isn't completely necessary. Dumb players need to be smart to succeed on the larger ice, but smart players can compensate. This ties in to Athanasiou as well. He's one of the fastest players in hockey and that's great, but he's not someone I would expect to gel with linemates and make a dominant line. He's somewhat like Evander Kane in that he plays pretty much the same way no matter who his linemates are. He could carry a lower line if Canada has poor depth, but you don't want him if the team is deep with talent.

I'm willing to take a chance on Drouin at a tournament like this. He's a guy with all the pieces but he hasn't put it together, putting him in this kind of situation might help him figure things out. If not, it's no big deal anyway. Adding him might also entice MacKinnon should Colorado be eliminated early.
Agree with what you are saying on Athanasiou, precisely why I see him on the lower lines and why I think he's a good fit there.

Travis Sanheim & Travis Konecny don’t have contracts for next year as of right now for the Flyers. So that could effect their availability.

well that certainly bites the big one. Had the 2 of those locked in since American thanksgiving. I thought I checked their contractual status. there goes my keen attention to detail.

If we get stuck with Nolan Patrick as a number 2 or 3 center, I'll take a pass on this tournament.

congratulations. you've settled the question once and for all - is there anything hf posters won't nitpick about. How do you know her due date is not the 1st. week in August? You hang with Claude after games for a few pops?

Count how many weeks there are from mid-May to the 1st. week in August. close enough for me.

now, can we get back to the roster, please. Looking forward to the Drew Doughty excuse. Always one of my end of season highlights.

Arguing about whether a player will go depending on how far long his wife is? Sorry. He won go. Why? his wife has a long lost of choirs for him to do around the house and other things

Well, if we had any hope that McDavid would make the tournament for the 3rd. time in 4 years, those hopes were dashed.

too bad. I hope the MRI comes back clean and there are no lingering issues. rest up, relax and hit the gym on or about Canada Day to get ready for another long NHL grind.

Nolan Patrick moving up the depth chart. Good Lord we're doomed.

Possible Domi gets an invite. He's been great for Montreal. Maybe Mete. Both young, high speed, really engaged players.

Mete is a great partner for anyone who may struggle defensively. He can move the puck too.

Doubt Price goes. Weber definitely doesn't.

What about Toews? Need a captain.

This is the first wave of players I would like to see Hockey Canada in touch with:

Teams eliminated from playoff contention, plus Arizona:

Los Angeles --- Doughty, (Toffoli if nearly everyone else refuses)
Anaheim --- Manson
Edmonton --- McDavid (Nugent-Hopkins if it helps get McDavid, otherwise no), (Nurse if there are many refusals)
Vancouver --- Horvat
Chicago --- Toews, Keith
Minnesota --- Spurgeon
Arizona --- None
Ottawa --- Chabot (Ceci if pretty much everyone else refuses)
New Jersey --- Severson, Blackwood
Buffalo --- Reinhart, Skinner
Detroit --- Mantha, Athanasiou, (Bertuzzi if pretty much everyone else refuses)
New York Rangers --- None
Philadelphia --- Couturier, Konecny, Sanheim, Hart
Florida --- Huberdeau, Hoffman, Matheson, Ekblad
NCAA --- Makar (he may join Colorado soon though)

East playoff bubble:

Montreal --- Price, Domi, Drouin, (Danault if there are many refusals), (Byron if healthy enough)
Columbus --- Dubois, (Savard if there are many refusals)
Carolina --- Hamilton, (Williams if there are many refusals and he's interested in being a veteran leader on the team)

I'm sure that there are some players I listed who have contract situations unfavourable to their participation, but the above is basically the base I would like to see the team start with. Many of them will refuse, but I expect that several will say yes. Hockey Canada should leave some room for first round exits as well.
Good list! I think Gallagher is way ahead of Danault and Byron for Montréal.

Montour probably get a good look.

I think that Gallagher is likely higher on Hockey Canada's list, but I don't like his game in international hockey.

Good grief imagine taking a hissy fit because somebody took the time to correct and educate you on something. The only reason I mentioned it is because my girlfriend is currently in third trimester now.

Welcome to the ignore list

Hart is a great add given Canada's goaltending situation the last few years. Good to see a quality young goalie get some reps. Couturier and Reinhart are very solid additions as well. If Canada can put them n a checking role then it's probably a solid team.
