How many players could join from Florida&Philadelphia for your team Canada?
Ekblad,Matheson,Huberdeau,Hoffman,Hart,Sanheim,Giroux,Couturier?
I doubt doughty goes. He prefers other activities in may. Others your named defensmans could goHow would this D look like?
Chabot (LD)
Doughty (RD)
Ekblad (RD)
Matheson (LD)
Montour (RD)
Sanheim (LD)
Severson (RD)
always difficult to predict who accepts and who declines for various reasons.
I wouldn't be surprised if all 8 accepted. nor would I be surprised if all 8 declined.
but the players highlighted are the ones I am hoping accept the invite.
I would add Matheson too, when he played at the Worlds (2016) he won the best d-man award, got the all-star selection, Canada won
and he scored the most points (1+7) by d-men at the 2017 Worlds, where Canada took Silver.

Giroux's wife is pregnant, baby due in August. I very highly doubt that he goes, even before considering that he's getting a bit old for this tournament.
Best case scenario with current nhl standings:
goalies?
Thomas Chabot - Drew Doughty
Darnell Nurse - Christopher Tanev
Jared Spurgeon - Aaron Ekblad
Ryan Nugent Hopkins - Connor McDavid - Claude Giroux
Jonathan Huberdeau - Nathan Mackinnon - Andreas Athanasiou
Jeff Skinner - Sean Couturier - Tyler Bertuzzi
Travis Konecny - Jonathan Toews - Nick Ritchie
-
+ players from stanley cup
I'm sure he will get an invite, but I think if Dubnyk or another veteran is going they would be the starterI am hoping Carter Hart goes and is the starter.

Would any of you select Dylan Strome?
now that the Hawks are out of the play-offs.
or what about Toews?.
Yeah, well put, no Strome.Towes is a no-brainer. If he wants to play there's a spot for him. I would, however, be vehemently opposed to Dylan Strome getting an invite. I'm glad he's managed to step back from going over the bust cliff, but would like at least 1 more season, preferably two, of solid production and a smidge more of development before he gets a sniff of a Team Canada...even for this tournament.
interesting factoid. No Team Canada featuring a Strome brother has ever won IIHF tournament. I think one of them even managed to blow a Hlinka tournament.
Yeah,well put, no Strome.
Not yet anyway.
I am glad he has resurrected his career but as you said I want to see a couple more seasons of this before inviting him to the skodas. Besides, I want a fast skating team across the board and Strome doesn't fill the bill, you get the feeling that the big ice game isn't suited for him.I was waiting for somebody to bring Strome up and dreading it. If he somehow motivates McDavid to go again, I suppose that wouldn't be all too bad. but I would hope McDavid would have other motivation than just to run around with an old junior teammate.
Anyway, never been much of a fan of any of the Strome siblings.
Too early to say.Is there a definitive list of players who have said no?
This is the first wave of players I would like to see Hockey Canada in touch with:
Teams eliminated from playoff contention, plus Arizona:
Los Angeles --- Doughty, (Toffoli if nearly everyone else refuses)
Anaheim --- Manson
Edmonton --- McDavid (Nugent-Hopkins if it helps get McDavid, otherwise no), (Nurse if there are many refusals)
Vancouver --- Horvat
Chicago --- Toews, Keith
Minnesota --- Spurgeon
Arizona --- None
Ottawa --- Chabot (Ceci if pretty much everyone else refuses)
New Jersey --- Severson, Blackwood
Buffalo --- Reinhart, Skinner
Detroit --- Mantha, Athanasiou, (Bertuzzi if pretty much everyone else refuses)
New York Rangers --- None
Philadelphia --- Couturier, Konecny, Sanheim, Hart
Florida --- Huberdeau, Hoffman, Matheson, Ekblad
NCAA --- Makar (he may join Colorado soon though)
East playoff bubble:
Montreal --- Price, Domi, Drouin, (Danault if there are many refusals), (Byron if healthy enough)
Columbus --- Dubois, (Savard if there are many refusals)
Carolina --- Hamilton, (Williams if there are many refusals and he's interested in being a veteran leader on the team)
I'm sure that there are some players I listed who have contract situations unfavourable to their participation, but the above is basically the base I would like to see the team start with. Many of them will refuse, but I expect that several will say yes. Hockey Canada should leave some room for first round exits as well.
Some thoughts on some of the guys you listed here.
Doughty: Would be a coup if we could get him, he hasn't had a great year by his standards but he's still drew doughty, I will have to say I'll be a bit pissed at him if he doesn't attend this year.
Spurgeon: Will this be the year he finally plays? hard to believe the guy has never suited up for this thing at least once, he is just the kind of crafty all around veteran d-man this team could use. Let's hope he finally is there.
Reinhart: not what I am looking for in terms of a team built on speed but he's a guy you can make an exception for as he's pretty smart, he could be useful
Athanasiou: Just the kind of player I want on the team, he's got the wheels and is fairly dangerous, have to think he is going to be there.
Drouin: I have been wanting him at this tournament for some time but after this year I am starting to lose faith in him and am not sure if he would help or hurt more. The big ice should favour his skill set but he is so damn inconsistent and seems to have a bit of an attitude problem and it seems for every real good play he makes he will make 2 plays that hurt you, there are flashing warning signs with this guy now, he makes me nervous to have on the team.
Makar: I really, really want this kid on the team, think he could excel if given the chance and it's great experience for him.
