I think you're making it out to be a bigger deal than it actually is. It's a part of the business in which they are in and have had to deal with it their entire careers.

but hey, I'd be selective about how I would go about it. Fabbro would get the benefit of the doubt, McCann would be out and sent packing if I thought I could get another player in here (Barzal) in time for Friday. Fabbro has a future with Team Canada at this tournament for sure. McCann? who gives a ****.

This is what Hockey Canada wastes its time and resources on. Convincing Shane Doan to give up riding horses on his ranch in Arizona to fly him over to offer words of advice and encouragement.

Well, at least he's still showing up in retirement. He played in this tournament lots...never really was particularly all that good in any of them except for 1, perhaps 2.

Hope he brought his good luck lucky loonie.

There's no point to it. This tournament isn't worth souring anyone on Hockey Canada and creating the perception that a player can agree and then be dropped is only detrimental in the long run even at this level. The solution is far easier, and it is not selecting a player like McCann or Turris. Very strange selections. Hockey Canada has had players on standby before, specifically I remember that Bozak was in that spot a few years ago, and that's fine.

Overall, I like the lineup
Nurse - Severson, should be interesting... I hope Nurse is a good babysitter because Severson gets... lost sometimes
Obviously, with this schedule, we'll get to see Hart in net... really looking forward to that because I think he's going to be something special

Agree with the point about our D's mobility, definite plus!

Should help vs speed of US fwds & later? vs Russia's skill as well.

Looking fwd to seeing Chabot & Montour together.

Would've thought anchors would be Chabot & Theodore but hopefully Nurse up to it too.

Interesting to see Strome on wing where he doesn't have to cover as much ice.

High end hockey sense tho!

Thx for info updates.

I'm somewhat confused by Wallace repeatedly listing Joseph as the centre and Cirelli as the RW of the fourth line. As far as I know Joseph is a winger and Cirelli is a centre. Perhaps someone who watched Tampa Bay regularly can correct me if I'm wrong.

I know it is a down year in terms of accepting invites from our players but I still do not understand the Turris inclusion at all, surely we could have gotten someone even marginally better then him.

Makes you shake your head in disbelief.

next year should be much much better. Lausanne/Zurich. If Canada lands in the Lausanne group I may in fact look at taking the family. I have a few university pals who live in Geneva. It's been too long since I took in a WHC. enough of the hording for retirement. but either group should generate a lot of interest among Canadian players...and more importantly, their wives and girlfriends.

Lucky guy, I would love to go to the skodas just once, spengler is high on my list too.

I'm working on it.

Teams looks good, glad to see Tavares is going to be on the team as well, should be a medal contender.

now all we have to do is ensure that McDavid, Makar Chabot, the Drake and Lafreniere (yes, I expect him to be there) are all on the team. Although, I think the Avs will be making deep runs in the POs for the next little bit. so, I'm not counting on seeing Makar there. We'll have to wait until an Olympic team to see his magic.

It looks that way with Makar. Mcdavid should be pretty safe though,lol................don't see any deep playoff runs there for quite some time.

Tavares not playing today against Austria. Does anyone know why?

he just landed in Vienna yesterday. I'm sure just to get him over the jet lag. Although, when I worked overseas I used to take the 7 pm flight out of Pearson and fly for 10 hours, pass through customs and take a taxi straight to the office to work for the day. never really experienced jet lag in Europe. It was coming back home that knocked me out for days.

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks!

I must have an abnormal body or the constitution of a bull or something because i've never experienced jet lag one way or the other even on the couple of european jaunts and one to Japan that I have done. Sure, i am tired after the flight because i can never sleep on an airplane due to my height and lack of room to get comfortable but after i land and get to my stay place if i sleep just for about 3-4 hours everything is completely back to normal and i am as good as ever, it's no big deal for me at all.

Lucky I guess.

Bear you are my leading source for information on that tournament.

I would not consider going to the IIHF WC unless it took place where I happened to be, although I suppose that I could have attended some of the 2018 tournament. I've gone to the WJC twice and enjoyed everything but the ending both times.

It’s really shame that so insightful poster as you can sometimes be just cannot post once in this forum without mocking this tournament, this really screws the rest of your posts.

I think you need to stay away from the WJC then.

This post is not mocking anything, it's just a fact. If I was in a city that happened to have games I would likely go, but it isn't something I would travel for. I'm also pretty confident that I have many posts that do not mock this tournament. Maybe eve some in this very thread.

It's all perspective. If you want to see Russia stage a comeback in the third period of the gold medal game, then you should hope that I am there.
I cannot imagine any sane person on this earth wanting to see that.

Now that's funny!

All right guys, enough talk about who watches what, this thread is for fans who want to discuss the Canadian WC team. Please keep it on topic.

Thanks

What do you guys expect from this Canada? And what are the thoughts on Alain Vigneault coaching team Canada?

I expect the team to make the semi-finals. Wouldn't be shocked if it didn't, wouldn't be shocked if it advanced to the finals, but I think that the mobility of the defence is a huge asset. Vigneault is a pretty good coach, though he lacks experience internationally. I'd say he's a good enough choice to coach the team.
