I think you're making it out to be a bigger deal than it actually is. It's a part of the business in which they are in and have had to deal with it their entire careers.
but hey, I'd be selective about how I would go about it. Fabbro would get the benefit of the doubt, McCann would be out and sent packing if I thought I could get another player in here (Barzal) in time for Friday. Fabbro has a future with Team Canada at this tournament for sure. McCann? who gives a ****.
This is what Hockey Canada wastes its time and resources on. Convincing Shane Doan to give up riding horses on his ranch in Arizona to fly him over to offer words of advice and encouragement.
Well, at least he's still showing up in retirement. He played in this tournament lots...never really was particularly all that good in any of them except for 1, perhaps 2.
Hope he brought his good luck lucky loonie.
There's no point to it. This tournament isn't worth souring anyone on Hockey Canada and creating the perception that a player can agree and then be dropped is only detrimental in the long run even at this level. The solution is far easier, and it is not selecting a player like McCann or Turris. Very strange selections. Hockey Canada has had players on standby before, specifically I remember that Bozak was in that spot a few years ago, and that's fine.
