Seriously, some of these players should be ashamed for not making themselves available. If a guy like Ovechkin who won the cup, had a short summer then another year + playoffs goes then i'm sure most non injured players should make exceptions.

This tournament is highly valued for them though, a lot of history with it, it really has no tradition over here, it makes a difference.

Thats really sweet and all.............................but a little more dedication and participation is required. Mcdavid won gold too, but he showed up here when asked more then once and his career is still in it's infancy.

It looks like TC needs some speedy forward like Marner, or Athanasiou, or even above-average skater like R. Smith or T. Wilson. It is so hard to locate these guys heh!! The Americans have so many.

perhaps it's still too soon to give up on Nate MacKinnon. There's still plenty of time. and perhaps he can do to Strome what Sid did to Schenn in 2015. That would give us Nate, J.T. and Couturier down the middle. I like our chances a whole lot with those 3 Cs.

Hockey Canada should keep sending out the invites here as players become available, and in the event a few of them should accept and we are over the 25 roster limit before the team is registered, give Kyle Turris the Hockey Canada credit card and send him and fam on all expense paid 2 week vacay to Italy.

that's just silly. He was a 20 year old coming off his NHL rookie season and didn't have a significant role on the 2016 team that won gold. His career sort of floundered for a few years until this year with his move to Montreal. If anything he should want to come back and play a much bigger role while he's still young. Doubt he ever makes a real Team Canada at anytime in the future, but with injuries he could move up the depth charts and be in consideration for a spot. He is a versatile player, center or LW.

I didn't expect Price or Weber to accept, but young players like Domi and Drouin need to answer the call when called upon.

Nobody said they should be competing every year when available, but show up here and there to show your proudness of representing your country especially in situation when there is no best on best tournament in 3 years at minimum horizon. Unless you are injured you can play golf in those 3 months remaining after this tournament.

who knows what happened. could have accepted the invite and then something came up in his medical and couldn't get cleared.

It’s a fun tournament and you get to represent your country and see a different part of the world.

I can see the appeal.

For others with injuries, or contract issues, or old and worn down by the NHL grind, or with families that they haven’t seen much, I can understand not going.

Does anyone have any info on why Athanasiou isn't on the team? Rumours from a few weeks ago was that all 3 of Mantha, Athanasiou and Bertuzzi were to be named. Surely they asked him, maybe he decided to decline at the last minute for some reason? I was looking forward to him playing an important role for this team.
