WJC: Canada 2019 Roster Talk Part 2

I don’t think he’s losing lustre but if you’ve watched him play in Bathurst he hasn’t been great there either, I chalk that up to their poor team and him trying to overcompensate. If he doesn’t have a great WJC then so be it, no 5-7 game stretch for an 18 year old is going to hurt him as a prospect. If he doesn’t improve in the 2nd half though with his new team then the questions around him will be very real.

He could’ve been here, he could have not. I’d have taken him over Phillips but he was always going to be in competition with Beaudin/McIsaac and evidently Phillips for the last 2 spots on D as 5 of the 7 were practically spoken for. He lost out, I’m not really sure why people are so outraged by him not being included, he’s a good player but doesn’t move the needle either way a whole lot for this team at the end of the day.

Not good enough. He’s not injured that I’m aware of but if he is it makes no difference, he’s just not good enough this season but should be there next year.

I think it’s debatable that Cozens isn’t good enough, but as young as he is, it was always going to be an uphill battle against guys that are one or two years older. Lafreniere barely made the roster as it was. For sure Cozens will get his opportunity next year.

He is not a lock for top 3 this year. Lots of people have Dach and Podkolzin as their #3 guy. Even then, a top 3 spot in the upcoming draft doesn't secure you a spot with Team Canada. The only underrager to make it this year is Lafreniere.

He is a lock for top-10 though, probably top-5, and and outside shot at top-3.

Pretty sure Cozens is ahead of Dach, but it’s Podkolzin that’s been the fast riser. With a good showing in the WJC he takes over third... assuming Bragin doesn’t cut him.

#3 is an open contest right now, Dach's hardly locked up that spot. Particularly if his Nov-Dec play continues.

I gotcha. Thanks boys. Canada’s been slacking lately on high end draft talent (after 2015) sounds like 2020 might be a big year tho.

I think Cozens should have been on this team.

I believe the goalies are splitting the game.

It is a foregone conclusion that Comtois will be named captain, I think that much is clear. As for assistants, there are a plethora of viable candidates. Probably will be in a group of Bouchard/Glass/Veleno/J.A.D/Smith, IMO.
