You think it's laughable that a 26 year old can't surpass his existing career point total by just 10 points?

Difficult, absolutely. Impossible? Hardly
A 12.5% increase in production from one year to the next?

Probably pretty rare for full time established players. I found only three who did it last year.

Kerfoot, Matthews, and Nylander.

(I only looked at the Leafs.)

Nylander short shifts HIMSELF.

He doesn't have the stamina.

.. and no PK time
I am not sold it's a stamina thing but he certainly is the first one off every shift.

Some coach along the way convinced him 35-40 seconds should be his shift time

You do realize he has been playing with flu or something past week????????? It was bad on bench on Thursday night like really bad and same on Yotes game on Monday .. from what I could see from stands he likely should not have played either game .. after da flu it takes time to get your body back to mint condition again

He has the stamina. It is in his genes. No doubt he could play 20+ min. Nylanders are known to take to long shifts. So if they are short, there must be another reason.

I just voted 50/50.

I didn't want to make a thread about him but I just want to add that he's really become a player worth keeping around. I know there is a lot of uncertainty about Mitch and Matthews going forward but I have a feeling WN may want to stay in town.

Call it a hunch.

I voted yes but I wonder ... His ice time is going down...2 points in the 1at period but barely kisses 14 minutes? maybe he needs to throw a hissy fit it break a stick?

Not the way he is used on this team.
When hot use him as much as possible. Stupid to miss windows like that, u never know when(or if) they close. He will probably get a little colder when Matthews and Marner gets going. Just use the hot players more, is that so hard to do?

If he competed like Hyman for 82 games, he would be 100 pts easy. That is not in Nylander's nature to show up. Nylander has one of the best puck protection skills in the NHL when he is in the offensive zone but i am baffled he does not use this tool. I am still thinking about a play from Nylander 3 or 4 games ago, he was circling the net on his backhand one hand on his stick, protecting the puck with a defender on his back. The d-man couldnt do anything, then he stopped and cut back, instantly losing the dman. HIs puck protection skills for a guy his size is incredible but leaves me frustrated not seeing it every single game.

I voted no. Though he could.

Through 13 GP he has 13 PTS... so he is on an 82 PT pace.

He has averaged ~0.79 points per game through his career so far.

In order to hit 90 he will have to average ~1.12 points per game for the rest of the season. Every game he gets less than 1.12 points per game, that goes up.

I hope he does, but I am not putting any money on it 🤑

Nylander could score 40 goals/90 points easily....... if he showed up every game. Nylander is the modern day Alexei Kovalev. One of the most skilled players in the league who takes shifts off.
The modern day Mikeal Nylander actually:cool:

But I think he's found a new level of commitment this year. So far this season he's shown less propensity to make the lazy play, he seems to be looking for ways to keep possession going, instead of throwing attack killing muffins at the net for the easy freeze.

At the 10 game mark last year I was frustrated with all his bad habits, by game 15 I wanted him moved. Nothing like that going on so far this year.

He's actually had some PK time and that should speak very loudly about where his game is at. Limiting those lazy things he did on a regular basis last year makes me think 90 is very attainable.

He is worth his contract and more. Good value player that's actually improving. Hope he finds himself at home here where he can do the family thing and sticks around for a fair contract. I think he has even more to show us if he digs for it.

Exactly except for one point, why would a young, good looking, highly desireable guy with pockets full of cash living in Toronto no less, get married? :naughty:

Everyone is going to be selling him blue sky when that time comes around haha. I agree though.
