Probably not. And he'll most probably never be as good as prime Foppa was, for me he's a top 10 player of all time. I see him as a superhuman, he had that Norman Bates psycho mode where i could almost see his eyes turning around and nobody could stop him even if there was 10 players against him at once.

With 8 total after 2 games he needs 24 in at most 5 games to pass Forsberg.

I wouldn't say impossible, but it would be a feat. Even with a big game tomorrow (another 7 points, say?) he would still need to average 4+ points a game the rest of the way with no more Germany's or Austria's to feast on.

The single point in the opener probably sunk any realistic shot at it (which was never really realistic in the first place).

Bedard is pretty much going to end up disappointing me unless he becomes the GOAT in hockey.

Expectations are a better Mcdavid.

Extreme overhyping... probably, but I want to see a GOAT level player play in the NHL during my life.

Mcdavid is potentially one, but still needs a lot of stuff to go his way.

Hoping Bedard can be a serious contender for major awards right away.

Yeah you are definitely setting yourself up for disappointment if you are expecting better than McDavid. He is likely to not even hit McDavid’s level. Which is fair enough considering McDavid is arguably the GOAT.

I do expect to be disappointed.

He's probably the first non-leaf player I will be trying to actively watch the majority of games for next year, whoever he gets drafted for.

I wonder how good he ends up when it's said and done.

He's just been above Mcdavid/Crosby at every WJC he's played in compared to their ages. He's having an insane Draft year at ~2.3ppg in the WHL with poor linemates.

He needs to be a ppg+ player as a rookie to be living up to his expectations (from the majority of the hockey world)

What do you guys tbink, is he the man to do it? I don't know when it will broken but records are meant to beat, look at ovie as a unlikely it may have seeme some years ago..

Although it's a lot of points. But who knows?
The record was set against a much worse team than Canada will face, so no. Then again, Sittler did it in the NHL so you can’t say no.

Yeah getting some Lafeniere type of overhyping here.

Disappointing you?

Bedard has never been touted as better than McDavid. He’s not over hyped. He’s easily the best 1st overall pick since Matthews/Jack Hughes.

He’s in that category. He’s going to be a star in the NHL. Very powerful shot, speed and also can handle the puck. I said this to my friends, he’s Marner with Matthews shot. He’s going to have a similar career to Marner IMO with more goals.

Also McDavid is a GOAT. McDavid I think is the most skilled hockey player we have ever seen. I don’t know if he is the best, but he has the most skill. His skill set in combination with his speed makes him so dynamic. I’m not sure there will ever be a player like him.

The funny thing is that despite Bedard's seven point game ad not being scoreless in the first game, he is on pace to finish to still finish three points behind Forsberg.

Will Bedard get 31 points or more in at most 7 games? No.

In normal circumstances a player good enough to challenge that record will be in the NHL and not at the tournament.
Not even sure what this means given that Bedard is not draft eligible...

It means exactly what it says. He is not good enough to break that record. The players who might be good enough historically are already in the NHL by the time they are good enough.

Still makes no sense. That was also a crazy year that Japan made the top group of the world juniors and should not have been there. They lost games 20-1 and 16-0 and overall were outscored 83-9 for a -74 goal differential.

Could Bedard beat it? Not likely but not because of his age or not being good enough but because hockey world has become that much better since 1993 with teams like Germany and the Swiss being so much better among others.
