Matthews legit does those defensive plays a lot. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for his 2-way game.
Most elite 2 way players started as elite defensive guys who ended up contributing more offensively for whatever reason. Matthews is the exception, who started out as an elite offensive player and only reached this level defensively more recently so I guess a lot of people still have this idea that he's just an offensive guy

I am old enough to remember the dozens of guys who said we overpaid for Nylander.
Also old enough to remember the ones who said we should have picked Ritchie in the draft.
Well Dubas has dealt away all the players and hard work I liked but I’m glad Nylander is still on board.

Pretty dominant performance. Hart was actually terrific, none of those goals were on him and he made 5-10 excellent saves on really, really dangerous scoring chances. With an average goaltending performance, we probably score 6+. The boys played very well tonight.

Couldn't be my boy Campbell kicking ass again? Could it?

Love you my boy.

Post season. Shut down. Heroics. Heard it here first. Again.

Watch the rise, bad game fools be damned, he'll get his contract before the post season.

And shall lead us out of the first round.

Sandin and Lilll have been described by posters other than myself, as best friends. Two young guys, in a foreign continent, forget a foreign country....

Shanahan, enjoyed his zenith of NHL success, with Swedish talent...

He must be enjoying seeing the two kids, having fun, dictating at times, cool stuff...

Hopefully we are a Washington, when they were close to winning the Cup, core of real serious players, a goalie who stops buckshot etc....

Tough league, tough opponent, we won and Jack Campbell..... woof, sometimes I see Belfour, sometimes I see, Cujo, but mostly I see Bower....

How do we resign this guy....yeah kyle i said we...

Well maybe Dubas saw this coming and that is why Zach is in Edmonton...

If he saw this before me.... I will bow...

Whatever Kyle does with Campbell, I don't think we should judge all that much...

For once, in a blue moon, I have NO, suggestions for kyle on this one...

BLACK JACK....wasnt there a goalie in the NHL, CALLED black jack...

if I was an NHL GM, for me to get paid, for at least five years, I would want the best or top three tender in the leauge...

ER....Jack Campbell, I think he is top five conservatively...

That makes everyone a lot braver...

You should finish a thought before you start another.

You said Jacks good a few times, with open ended consequences or feelings so good job. Gold star. Drink lots of water.

I found this to be an odd game. I never was fully engaged by the team reaching for the heights, while at the same time never feeling overly worried that they were going to lose. It was an efficient, yet somewhat passionless effort. Congrats on the win, I'll take it.

The thing about of Matthews is that we kind of expect him to score every game or every other game and when he doesn’t we feel that skying is falling.
The guy still has 5 goals( 10 points) in 11 games while coming from a surgery.
He will probably go another goal scoring streak soon.

great win today!
I would rather him play the way he is now and score 40/40 and have a big playoff rather than empty the tank trying to win the rocket...AM/MM should be messured by playoff success at this point. Just get into the playoffs! As history has shown you just need to get in and anything can happen

Only once in the in the last 5 years has of the Stanley Cup finals not had a team the finished 3rd in their division or lower

Leafs got a shutout eventhough Holl was playing? Give campbell a trophy already

Holl scares the crap outta me on ice.

btw... Loved Lily's offensive instincts last game; wait till it goes in for Lily and the dude gains even more confidence. Loving his game thus far!

Only 3 pages so far? Not surprising some people are here just to trash on the big 4 after every loss..

Gdt & pgt are always quiet after/during good times vs the bad. Almost as if those all of those clowns’ only intent is to stir up shit

Unbelievable. I wake up to only 5 pages... It get being critical of the team when they deserve it. And hey they deserve it a lot. But there are too many whether here or on Twitter who seem to get pleasure trashing the team but can't float praise when things are going well. Misery loves company I guess. There are too many willing to die on a hill that they don't like the way this team is built or how they play etc... and that inhibits their ability to be excited for the team they cheer for. Hey guess what, this win may mean nothing and they may even miss the playoffs. So what. I can allow myself to be happy for 5 minutes and dish out praise for 5 minutes.

It. is. ok. to. cheer. for. your. team. even. for. the. smallest. things. Don't be scared. Don't hide. Let us see your wonderful faces after a win too. We won't bite. Willy played well. Leafs played well. You can say it. It won't hurt.

I don't see why it's so shocking that there would be more pages of discussion after a loss than a win. After a loss the entire roster and front office are dissected, after a win they're not.

People can argue this now to get the page count up......you're welcome!

While watching a game like that, you can sense that they just don’t the “it” factor. It’s like they just don’t care and just go through the motions.

The image of Nylander laughing after the puck got away from him on a breakaway is a prime example.
