Is it just me or did Lilly get crazy good over night? Man I like his game. No mistakes or giveaways at all last night. Was on the offense a lot last night and because he is such a great skater, he gets back in time. I think Lilly surpassed Sandin.

Great game by Lilly, but he was stripped of the puck at the blue line when he took the extra second to try to side step the rushing forward rather than just putting it deep and it was an odd man rush against.

Not trying to be overly critical, but that was one clear defensive mistake.

Tough pass from Semyonov there. First game mistake.

That wouldn’t change anything. It’s more mental than physical.

If you watched hockey, particularly the playoffs, you’d see it. Or if you listen to former players analyzing the team.

While watching a game like that, you can sense that they just don’t the “it” factor. It’s like they just don’t care and just go through the motions.

The image of Nylander laughing after the puck got away from him on a breakaway is a prime example.

Watching a 3-0 shutout win gives you the sense that they just don't care ? We should be losing games 5-0 and see guys get upset and break sticks.

Losing and getting angry/frustrated and showing you care > Actually winning and playing winning hockey.

SOUP SOUP SOUP SOUP SOUP and WILLY what a combo
Our 2 best players this year so far
OMG Soup was outstanding he covered up so much for Holl's errors (6 major f*** ups by my count)
Dubie's boy Holl has been badly exposed for what he is .. at best a 6th dman .. but more likely a fill in 7th guy .. and only because Muzzy has lost a step

Regular season is a good time to learn what you can and can’t do.
Then keep it simple come playoff time.

It's really not.

When bad things happen in like I say 'It's laugh or cry and I'm not big on tears'

I swear people on these boards don't watch other teams or just expect perfection from players every night. I've watched games where players of other teams make mistakes too or mail it in. It happens to everyone.

Sure, but are you following the GDT's of those other teams as you watch? I think you'll find their fans critical of mistakes as well. Obviously the bigger the fanbase, the more critical posts there are.

Criticism over errors is not exclusive to Leaf GDT's

I thought Holl had a pretty good game, especially on the PK.

Still looked a bit sluggish and panicked a tad with the puck on his stick, but did a really good job boxing out the slot and blocking shots.

But like you said, probably better suited as a bottom pairing guy.

Moving forward, I'd go:
Rielly - Lilly
Muzzin - Brodie
Sandin - Holl/Dermott

I think it's more about context. They're running out the clock with less than 10 seconds left and Engvall comes in and does a small push to Provorov.

I have no problem with it because I'm sure throughout the game, he was sticked or had an extra slash.

It wasn't necessary, but it wouldn't be a bad thing to nurture that side of Engvall.

Yeah, that was a mistake.
Muzzin had one in the corner that lead to a good opportunity for the Flyers.
Holl threw a grenade in his own zone early in the game.
I'm sure we could find others involving other defenders as well.

Liljegren does look like a NHL defender though, and seems to be adding pieces to his game as the season moves forward.

Holl has earned his spot, and that is a depth defender who gave the Leafs some time for their prospects to develop into NHLers.
I expect Dermott and Holl to fight for the last spot.
I expected more from Dermott, I didn't expect anything from Holl.

Betting we could see a Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie, Liljegren and Sandin next year, with a defender whose name hasn't been listed in the top 6.

Lilly was better than sandin in the AHL in every game I watched. He was thrown to the wolves pre pandemic.
The leafs were in a spiral. Muzzin rielly. Ceci were hurt. They brought him up.

He is a legit prospect. Now gettting his shot.

I'd like to see someone with size, who can play a little nasty....

Sandin/Lil are completely different style defenceman, that's a good thing. Sandin very cerebral, with a better offensive arsenal. Lil harder to play against and much better defensively. Good news is, both have room to grow and improve of their respective weaknesses.

Sandin can be real shifty, that’s for sure.
Lili has barely shown his offensive side - there’s plenty to it- and it’s coming.

Also, I’m in the ‘Justin Holl will be fine’ camp.
