Not thrilled with that return at all.

Thought Cliffy would be a King for life.

Guess his great character guy thing wasn’t untouchable after all. Seems like they gave him away. Solid pick ups for Toronto.

It's understandable that the Leafs would want Clifford. He's the only bottom six I'd want from this team. You know who's going to be a lifelong King Trevor Lewis. No-one wants him. Surprised we got what we got for Campbell and Cliffy.

Bummer to see Clifford go. The return is fine but I wish the warm body we got wasn’t a midget.

Kings seem to value speed over everything else. I’m not surprised Moore was a throw in, he’s a local guy and hope he does well, but seems like he’s another Leipsic, scherbak type roster filler that won’t be here long term. Probably an AHLer.

I would've bet money that trading Campbell and Clifford together could have fetched a second-round pick. Oops.

Well I read where the condition on the 2021 3rd is it becomes a 2nd if Toronto resigns Clifford or if they make the playoffs and Campbell gets 6 wins. If the starter is out for any time he may be able to get those 6 wins for us.

Wow, just, wow.

What a horrible return for a fan favorite and a guy who always showed up on this team. Clifford was one of the few players on this Kings team that had the work ethic and leadership that you want the younger players to be around.

If he doesn't re sign with the Leafs I hope the Kings get him back.

Wish Kyle the best, easily one of my all time favorite Kings.

And it was perfect timing. I wanted Clifford to stay too but you have to trade them before their game drops. Dont want another Carter situation stuck on the roster.

I didn't know it was pretty much a second. Makes things better. It's a fair trade. But you can't get sentimental value in a trade so it is what it is. Team gets younger. Petersen has a spot. Win win.

I wonder what people thought Clifford or Campbell would return in a trade individually. Guys who play top six roles were dealt for 2nd rounders in last year's deadline.

I thought we would have done well to get a 3rd for either. So we did that plus a young bottom 6 guy and one of the 3rds could become a 2nd. Nothing to bitch about here.

You do know that being a “fan favorite “ does absolutely nothing for his value around the league. Return was fair and if Clifford wants to come back after his playoff chance with Toronto I’m sure we would have an interest. Not sure what you think a 4th line rental is worth these days. And yea I love Clifford too but doesn't increase his value.

Think what you want about the return, but the biggest positive is that Cal gets some NHL playing time and we opened up another spot for a young player. Let’s keep unloading the vets. Need to move on and look to the future.

i don't understand why some people wanted to keep clifford?? are we rebuilding or are we rebuilding? all ufa contracts must be moved out

and two 3rds alone is what their value is, t. moore is a reclamation project and a potential 2nd (instead of a 3rd) are bonuses

we promote a younger and better goalie in Petersen who happens to be also cheaper - this is not a bad deal

next:
toffoli
lewis
forbort
hutton
j. ryan
ladue

Great return. The trade means nothing for cliffords future here. He is either getting resigned in July or he was never getting resigned. We netted a 3rd + half a prospect for a 30 game rental of a 4th liner.

Meaningful games for the kings over the next 30 games = 0

We got a 3rd rounder for a 4th line rental while were likely to only get a 2nd for toffoli, great return.

Soupy had to be moved before next year, a 3rd/2nd plus half a prospect is a good return

you used the half prospect in both cases... are you literally splitting trevor moore in two??

Gonna miss Cliffy.

Does this mean Villalta is the starter in Ontario? Petersen comes up unless they plan to pick up a cheap vet. The way Ingham is playing I think he should get a contract and a look with the Reign next year.

Yeah, Villalta will be the starter in ONT and Kehler will be recalled to be the back up unless something else breaks. I have to say, after a bit of a shaky start in relief, Villalta has shown he has game. I've been pleasantly surprised, but it's gonna make it more difficult for the Reign pushing for that last playoff spot in the Pacific.

I feel like sentimental value means more to some fans. It’s time for younger players to step up and take that Kyle Clifford role, just as Clifford did in 2009 when he filled that role that the team wanted a washed up Scott Thornton to fill.
Okay, but who?

There is nobody in Ontario ready to step in, and nobody at all with that particular skill set. Not a soul.

Some things are worth keeping regardless of fair value. It has absolutely nothing to do with sentimentality. This is a team with so little presence to it, so little fortitude and discipline. There were only two wingers in the entire pro organization that have any kind of ability along the wall, and once Toffoli is dealt in the next week or so, this will be the weakest board play Kings team in memory.

That doesn't just affect this year's results, you need those guys to practice with and against. It helps young defensemen to have to drill against that kind of player. It's one thing to lose due to a lack of talent, but this weak bunch is going through a full on wussification that isn't just a lack of fights or big hits, but grit and accountability as well. That's been a big loss since the real leaders left, and the last bastion of that era left today. One guy can't do it alone, but having nobody who can do it at all can be catastrophic.

Hopefully they sign him again the summer.

I think the return is more than fair. You essentially traded a 4th line winger who has 60 days left on his contract for a 4th line winger that is 5 years younger, has speed and is an excellent fore checker who is under contract for two seasons then the Kings have RFA control and our back up goalie for two guaranteed 3rd round picks, the 2021 pick with a fair chance to become a 2nd round pick. Face it, Blake had zero leverage with 3 NHL goalies who are not waiver exempt going into next season. There is no market for Quick. Campbell was going to be moved, whether it was now or the off-season.

Some additional thoughts:

(1) Kings and Reign must have felt Villalta proved himself enough the Kings could finally promote Petersen. I have to say he's exceeded my expectations so far, but it will make the Reign's playoff push a bit more difficult.
(2) Kings are weak at LW in the organization, likely why they targeted one in return, especially since they lost one in the trade.
(3) This gives the Kings the Columbus 3rd round pick and Calgary 4th round pick in the upcoming draft. Could we see another bundle deal to move up to a late 2nd or another early 3rd round pick this year?
(4) Hextall was brought in to be counsel (another voice in the room) in these situations. This was likely run by him also.
