leafs fan thought on moore

he's better than he appears... really good shot and decent takeaway skill. didn't get much opportunity as he's been on the 4th line.

he just came back from concussion so he's playing a little loopy

He's not on the level of grundstrom was, though. but he's still bound to impress you. I'd rather have traded any of our other LWers to be honest.
That last sentence is ridiculous lol.

For what it's worth, Clifford wasn't a fourth-liner. He was our best third-liner. Not that that's necessarily glowing praise for our team.

Campbell has put up pedestrian numbers this year. I like him but he’s a backup goalie that can be a starter. Blocking Peterson.

Clifford is a fan favorite, but a UFA 4th liner. Gotta get something for him in a rebuild. High character for 3 more months means nothing to the Kings.

3rd rounder in a deep draft - good!
3rd rounder that LIKELY turns into a 2nd rounder - good
One of the Leafs’ top 5 prospects on some lists, albeit an older one, but one all Leafs fans seem to like (also a local kid fwiw) - good!

3 decent assets with years of control for a backup goalie blocking our #1 guy and a pending UFA 4th liner

This is bad?
Where you getting 3 assets? Its a player that's hurt alot ie Moore and a conditional third.

that was my next thought, is villalta really ready to start in ontario?
Villalta has been playing great recently in ONT. If you look only at games he has started (not games he's come in after Petersen was pulled) his numbers are actually very solid for the entire year, but has been particularly good over the past month. At the beginning of the season, Petersen was playing every night, even back to backs. But Villalta has earned his starts of late, will be a good opprotunity to see what he can do as the teams #1

I wonder what people thought Clifford or Campbell would return in a trade individually. Guys who play top six roles were dealt for 2nd rounders in last year's deadline.
ryan reaves got a 1st :sarcasm:

obviously joking since that was a major outlier but yeah, i don't think it's right to expect much more return for these guys. maybe it hurts the heart a little bit, but this is business

Its Moore and a conditional 3rd.

It's Moore, the Blue Jackets' third in 2020, and the Leafs' guaranteed third in 2021 that could become a second in 2021 if 1. the Leafs re-sign Clifford, or 2. Campbell wins 6 regular season games this season and the Leafs make the playoffs.

Now that the return is guaranteed to be a 3rd and can become a 2nd I am liking the trade a lot more. It's not often a backup goalie returns a 3rd and it is not often a rental with 14 points returns a 3rd. Getting both of those along with Moore and the chance at a 2nd is actually pretty decent. Depending on if Andersen is out, Campbell may have a good shot at 6 wins. A 2nd, 3rd and Moore looks pretty damn good.

Look at some of last years deadline comparables:

Brassard and a 6th for a 3rd,
Simmonds for Hartman and a 4th,
McQuaid for a 4th,
Beaulieu for a 6th,
Hendricks for a 7th,
MDZ for a 6th,
Fanta for a 4th,
Kinkaid for a 5th.

They actually traded Clifford when I finally actually wanted to keep him. Feels like a dumb trade.

guys, use your internet

moore
3rd round pick this year
3rd round pick in 2021 that turns into a second if soupy wins 6 games and leafs make playoffs OR cliffy re-signs (the former is very likely imo)

it’s a good deal with several assets and many years of combined team control

Thanks for the information.Still a crappy return with a player that cant shoot goals and is a 4th line player and hurt alot according to leaf fans.Give the scrub back and get Clifford.

To put things in perspective, much of the talk on Toffoli is a 2nd and a middle-tier prospect. Moore is a player who was considered a middle-tier prospect in the Leafs system before graduating to the NHL.

So if Campbell wins 6 games, the trade becomes a 2nd, 3rd and a middle-tier prospect type player, which is likely a better package than we will get for Toffoli (granted we're talking two players traded compared to Toffoli alone).

Additionally, if you want to break it down, Mayor recently said on Kings of the Podcast, if someone called giving a 2nd for Clifford, he'd take that over payment. So if you consider it a second for Clifford (assuming conditions are met), a 3rd and Moore is a decent return for a backup goalie, especially when it opens the door for Petersen in LA.

yes, exactly. 100%

Losing Clifford stings a little, and I never thought I’d say that as a longtime critic of his, but he will be missed in the locker room, but I am glad we are getting assets when we can. Maybe we re-sign him in the summer for cheap...

i think a lot of you are forgetting that campbell fell into our lap and we probably turned him into a 2nd from a guy that likely was headed for europe, he couldn't even break out of the ECHL

both of these get real dollars down and open slots for young players, that's the long game here
