People really don't understand how many wins .001 difference in sv% means over 82 games....

Think the TSN Analytics guys read HFNYR. Posted an article on Dubnyk today, but also provided a nifty little chart on goalies even strength save percentage...

So what does this mean for our boy Cam?

Cam has faced 1092 5v5 shots, and saved all but 72 of them for a sparkling .934 5v5 sv%.

If you refer to the chart, we can reasonably expect that Cam Talbot is actually anywhere from a .917sv% goalie to a .935sv% goalie.

What does this tell us? Well, absolutely nothing, considering that range is an NHL starter to the best goalie of all-time.

:)

I'd wager he's a bit closer to that .917 goalie than that .935 5v5 goalie though.

#NYR @ctalbot33 is 7-1-1 with a 1.54 GAA, .948 SV%, and 2 SO in his last 9. He's 4-0-1 with a 0.99 GAA, .966 SV%, and 1 SO in his last 5!!

His range is wide long term. Between Ward (.917ES% career) and Rask (#1 goalie at .935ES% career). Right in the middle would be a Jimmy Howard (.926ES% career).

Either way the guy is good enough to be a starter anywhere and I would say his (even strength save %) range of .917 to .935 largely depends on what team he's placed on.

Lundqvist's long run ES save % is .923 to .933. So Talbot actually has a slightly higher ceiling.

Are Talbot's mother and father posting on HF? I swear every thread these same two posters make him out to be a mix of Hasek, Roy, and Brodeur.

Talbots is a terrific back-up, and may become a good starting goalie.

However, Henrik is the greatest goalie in franchise history and a first ballot HOFer. He was a crucial part in getting this team to the Finals last year. Any fan pushing Talbot over Henrik - cap number or not - is either a new fan or just just doesn't fully understand the sport. It also shows a lack of appreciation. The gap between Richter and Lundqvist was an absolute nightmare.

Sather made a great move resigning Talbot when he did - just wish it was a longer deal! Hopefully Sather can move him for a mid-late pick in the first or for an early 2nd to recoup some traded picks.

Lets play a game. All the stats below are averages unless otherwise stated

GP W L SV% GA Total Shutouts

Player A: 24.5 14 6 0.933 1.94 8 (2 Seasons and counting)

Player B 29.33 17.67 7 0.931 2.1 9 (3 Seasons)

Player A is Cam Talbot's 2 seasons in NY

Who is Player B?

HINT: The current team that Player B is on IS NOT the same as the team he was on when the 3 year window of statistics used for Player B accumulated.

I hope we can get a 1st in this year's draft for Talbot, love the kid but he's closer to .910 than .930. Also, he is absolutely garbage in the shootout and on breakaways.

Good to see some of you don't just try to discredit goalies on other teams. You discredit anyone that's not Lundqvist.

Can anyone see the brass of the team "delaying" lundqvist's return because Talbot is playing lights out right now? We all know Lundqvist is jumping right in when he returns but Cam is really standing on his head and I'm sure they wanna ride this out as long as they can.

No, but I can see them going extra careful with Hank when it becomes a judgment call whether to start him now or 1-2 games later. Either way, Hank will be back in about a week.

I really don't understand this logic that us having the audacity to say that Talbot isn't "just as good" as Henrik ****ing Lundqvist is discrediting him in any way whatsoever.

There's so many things I'd like to say but can't.

I've given proof and solid arguments that nobody wants to accept. You can't see the truth if you don't want to.

Only solid counter argument I've seen is that Talbot only has about 50 NHL games played, however he is showing no sign of decline, in fact he is improving the more games he plays.

Hank isn't going anywhere, as he has a NMC and will no doubt retire a Ranger (as he should). But for arguments sake, what would he return?? Not many number 1 G's still in their prime have been traded with the amount of years left on Hank's contract.

I would guess it would be something along the lines of the Patrick Roy trade: http://www.nhlfilmsarchive.com/2013/05/the-patrick-roy-trade.html

Roy returned not very much:

Four days after the incident, the Canadiens traded Roy and captain Mike Keane to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Jocelyn Thibault, Martin Ručínský, and Andrei Kovalenko. The return for Roy was seen as uneven at the time it was made, and eventually became known as one of the most one-sided deals in NHL history.

Still waiting for you to address how comparing SV% between starter games + playoffs and games solely selected for a backup (AKA the easiest games) is a fair comparison in any way.
