Tbh Gus was just plain bad last year after he showed well the year before. Easy to say now and technically they could've ran with it but with the moves that were made and the hope to get a Dman in the offseason I thought the Talbot move made sense.

Gus had a wide open spot in net on this team last season, many people thought he would have a shot at the starter role but he dissapointed. He's young and all but clearly team didn't see him as the long term option.
Well I did start it off saying Hindsight.
he struggled with consistency for ever. Its a call based on where you evaluate the team to be at going in to the season. It probably wasn't the best call as things turned out.
IF this and that and then this then that .. it could have been great and we coulda been a contenda.

Gus was not good when he first came to MN. Seemed to have talent, but was always good for one bad goal per game, and early in games at that. After the first 20 or so games the coaching staff started to focus more on defense, as MN was letting way toomany goals in, and since then, Gus has really turned it around. Right now, he looks like a big goalie just entering his prime who has no major weakness.
It’s an unexpected turn of events. I liked Talbot when he was in MN, certainly more than Fleury, and thought it was a weird, impulsive trade by Guerin. It’s turning out really well for us, but I wonder if there is something about MN’s style of play that makes it easy for goalies to excel- I mean, we’re not that good, at least compared to teams 5-7 years ago?

I'm truly surprised Dorion watched him play this year and said "yeah we need another year or two of this."

Good lord.
The problem we have right now is we really don't have a tone of options.

Forsberg is a career backup with ~120 games to his name, and just blew out both MCLs.

Sogaard is a rookie, same with Mando

Meanwhile next year the expectations will probably be playoffs or bust, so have an experienced starter is probably a priority,

Craig Anderson is going to lead his team to the playoffs - he’d be an upgrade

Well he had a good run .. helped the Sens play to a over 500 record in late February .905 save %
.. All it cost us was more was a good young goalie that was ready to break out.
Another good value trade for Dorion

If he gets a fourth for Talbot you think that’s fair value for giving up Gus?

Makes you want to pull your hair out. (Dorion in his sober moments staring at the mirror.)

I'd rather take another shot at waivers roulette than place any sort of real expectations in Talbot.

Should've kept Hellberg, the best last name in goaltending history.

Thank you for keeping us competitive even if the logic behind acquiring you was nonsensical Cam. Hope he gets traded to a team that can go deep.

Last I heard, Mando was injured in Belleville, so it feels like a risky idea to move Talbot now.

Unless we're getting a goalie back in trade. But I don't see why another team would do that.

I think the logic behind acquiring Talbot made complete sense.

Forsberg looked pretty good but was unproven in terms of a starter role. Gus didn't have a great season in 21-22. The team made some moves to really strengthen the roster and wanted to drive towards a competitive season. Bringing in a veteran starter coming off an all star season was a decent move. Cost us a goalie prospect, one that we're not sure how the team ranked internally.

Having missed the last month and having missed training camp with injuries, Talbot has still played more than Gus. How would Gus look with 40 starts on this team?

The capspace/assets used to address our goaltending could have been used to address our D. Our team is stronger with another top 4 defender in our line up than having an aging goaltender on an expiring contract.

The way our D is coached and playing, Shesterkin and Sorokin wouldn't be able to save us. We acquired Talbot and put him in a position to fail by having him play behind our D.

Talbot is the best goalie available at the deadline by a mile. I don’t think Vejmelka goes anywhere.

We’ll get a good return for him - enough for us to forget we lost Gustavsson.

Steve Warne said Cam just recently buy a house in Ottawa. He said first offer often rejected. Will see
