Nobody is comparing him to them....So far, they are comparing him to similarly aged played...But you just selectively ignore every post that doesn't fit with your argument.

If he was NHL ready, he would be producing in the NHL now...Just like several players who were picked in the same range as him are doing already.

I have seen a total of ONE name and that was Nick Ritchie that's it Nick Ritchie is the ONLY name I have seen

You said nobody was producing similar numbers, and Ritchie is....PsychoDad posted this earlier tonight...Thats two....

Frank Vatrano has 8 goals and 10 points in his first 6 games, is just 21 and not even drafted.
I'd wait a bit before I lose any sleep about Nylanders 6 in 5.

Age is a factor 2 guys with similar skill you take the younger guy as he has more room to grow

Your original claim was that Nylander is currently the best player in the AHL. Being younger and having more room to grow doesn't make you better right now.. I dont really see why you think thats an argument. Age is not a skill.

For example:

Last season at age 22 Teemu Pulkkinen had 34 goals/27 assists/61 points (1.32 PPG) in 46 AHL games.
Last season at age 18 William Nylander had 14 goals/18 assists/32 points (0.86 PPG) in 37 AHL games.

No one in their right mind would say that Pulkkinen is a better prospect or has more potential than Nylander. And it's true that Nylander's season was more IMPRESSIVE given his relative age. But, Pulkkinen WAS the better AHL player last season.

This really isn't that difficult to understand.

There are quite a few from the same draft class as Nylander that are putting up similar numbers PPG wise in the AHL.

Jakub Vrana 5 points in 5 games thus far. He was picked 5 spots later than Nylander.

Nick Ritchie picked 2 spots later than Nylander, has 5 points in 4 games, pending tonight's action.

Ivan Barbashev picked 33rd has 4 points in 4 games.

Vladislav Kamenev 42nd pick has 2 goals in 3 games.

Nylander was pointless after today's game is now at 6 in 6.

really, really small sample size. Gotta wait at least 25 games before we can start judging any of em

this. It's even apparent in the NHL. Cammalleri is 2nd in points right now lmao. There may only be 1 or 2 players that are producing near Nylander's clip by mid season. If I had to guess it would probably be Vrana too

I can agree with this. "sample size" favourite HF term of late. But yes, I really only expect Vrana and Nylander keeping their points pace up. Ritchie is a power fwd winger. His game is more about goals and physical presence. Not points production like Nylander. Regardless, I only wanted to correct the poster I was responding to. There are plenty of examples at this point of similar aged players producing in the AHL, and if we go even farther the NHL for that matter.

Yep. Need a wider sample size of data to even out the hot streaks and cold streaks.

Not to mention, this discussion of comparing prospects seems to totally ignore their past seasons.

The point was, the one poster or posters made an outlandish claim that Nylander was the best prospect not named Mcdavid, then it was not playing in the NHL, then it was he was the only PPG 19 year old playing in the AHL. Some of us here just want to say Nylander is a good prospect, some of us would also like to correct the record he is not the only 19 year old putting up numbers at the NHL or AHL level or anywhere else in the world. I think this discussion would be helped if we did not have grand inaccurate statements made by some Leafs fans that pump up Nylander as something special, when all he has shown to this point is he is a very good prospect, like many that were drafted the year he was drafted and afterward in this year's draft.

Watching the Marlies game right now and was pretty disappointed to see Nylander isn't playing (neither is Kapanen). Does this have anything to do with last nights performance, or is it just for the same reasons Brown didn't play last night?

Three games in three days, so theyre probably giving them a day off. They seem to have a rotating system where everyone has a game off every few games because of the depth! Once guys get called up to the big club when some get traded on the Leafs, we should see less rotating.

Thats what I figured. I think guys like Brown, Nylander and Kapanen should play every game and let the depth guys rotate, but it is what it is.

Hmm that's weird, never heard of that before.

Maybe it has happened before....i've just personally never heard of a team resting top tier starters just for the hell of it/no reason in particular.

I am assuming the Leafs have done some research into the effectiveness of players playing 3 games in 3 days and also the potential injury risk of it too.

If either one comes back as inefficient then it would make sense to rest them. This is about development after all.
