I agree that its to early to say that Nylander is the best player in the world not in the NHL but after this season we may have reason to believe he is the best player in the AHL he's a PPG so far and I don't think he's played exceptionally well when I compare it to his better games last year theres more there and it will be interesting to see when he does hit his stride how dominate he can be at this level

It may be the most impressive given his age and being above a ppg, but that doesn't make him the best player in the AHL

If you can name me a better AHL player than Nylander I am all ears and I am not talking about some career AHL guy either I am talking about a guy of similar age putting up similar stats

Nick Ritchie....Im not really joining the discussion or saying that Ritchie is better or worse(Im btw not a big fan of his:P, but he is 4g, 1a so far)...But he produces about the same right now. 1 less game, 1 more goal, and 2 fewer assists.

"Name a better AHL player! And I'm not talking about AHL players!"

He is the best player in the AHL and that's a fact given that he is above at PPG and he isn't 20

There are over 70 ppg players right now in the AHL, and a players age has nothing to do with how good he is compared to others right now. I agree that he might just be one of the best if not the best player in the AHL right now, but your reasons don't make a whole lot of sense. And they do nothing to make your opinion a fact.

Well he is tied for 14th in league scoring this year and 30th last year in PPG (among players who played more than 10 games).

So I would say he isn't the best player in the AHL, quite easily actually.

the leafs hate on hfboards is great.

You either get accused of being a leafs homer or hater.

Is this apart of the pain Mike Babcock was talking about?

I can't wait until things start turning around for the Leafs and our prospects start making the jump to the NHL. It'll be fun and exciting to watch.

Frank Vatrano has 8 goals and 10 points in his first 6 games, is just 21 and not even drafted.
I'd wait a bit before I lose any sleep about Nylanders 6 in 5.

nylander is a bust then. Fire mark hunter

Are you even following the discussion? The argument was that Nylander is the best player in the AHL because he's a PPG player and he's 19 years old. He's obviously a top player in the the AHL, but those aren't very convincing arguments when you're trying to prove he's the absolute best right now. A lot of players put up points in the AHL, and being 19 years old doesn't make you better than anyone else.

I am sure there are, I am also sure a significant portion are MUCH older than Nylander with no shot at the NHL

He hasnt played well to be honest. Since his first game he's been kinda off by nylander's standards, but he still makes a major impact on the games.

But no, he is definitely not the best player in the ahl, not even close imo.

Of course. I think an argument can be made that Nylander is the best player in the AHL. I just dont think his age and production are the right ones. Other players produce more than he does, and being young is not a skill.

I've watched him play a little bit in the AHL now, and the main reason why I think he's one of the best players there is because of the way he controls the flow of the game.

How is that relevant in who the best player in the AHL is?

We're not talking about who the best AHL player is, we're talking about the best hockey player.

Would you have taken TJ Brennan over Morgan Rielly because he produced more in the AHL?

Nylander is the best NHL player in the AHL, easily.

As has been pointed out already, age is not a factor when it comes to who is currently the "best" player. Age isn't a skill we evaluate. Nylander may or may not be the best player in the AHL right now, but it has nothing to do with his age.

Age is a factor 2 guys with similar skill you take the younger guy as he has more room to grow

Because If we are comparing Nylander to say some 27 year old that will never play NHL hockey who is the better player really?

I will take the young star that is probably NHL ready now

Nobody is comparing him to them....So far, they are comparing him to similarly aged played...But you just selectively ignore every post that doesn't fit with your argument.

If he was NHL ready, he would be producing in the NHL now...Just like several players who were picked in the same range as him are doing already.

Yeah and that has to do with the FUTURE, not the PRESENT.

Nylander may have the most potential, but that doesn't make him currently the best player in the AHL.

Nobody is knocking Nylander. He may or may not be the best player currently in the AHL. However, age does not factor into that evaluation.
