The Four Nations Tournament Thread

I think more than just his country, he will not get a chance to play with his brother(s). But I am overjoyed that he will not play.

1 - He needs to heal, good for Nucks.

2 - Major blow to the strength of the US team, who I hope finishes last. Since trump got elected I wish them nothing but ill.
He’ll likely play with them at the olympics in a year

While I’m happy Hughes is going to get the rest, it likely also means it’s not just a day to day issue he’s dealing with. Hopefully whatever it is can resolve itself over this break and he’s fully healthy from here on out. Tough blow for him, not only representing his country, but playing with his brother being taken off the table.

Great news, I'm looking forward to a healthy Hughes joining the revamped Canucks for a strong run this spring.

Tough decision for our Captain. We can sit here and say it's a "meaningless" tournament (it is) but to the players, it always means something to represent your Country.

Gonna have to cheer up our Captain at our first home game back.

I think it's more than just representing the country. That's a bit ridiculous given the commercial nature of this tournament.

It's a chance to play against the best players in the world. Someone as hyper-competitive as Hughes is going to be excited about that, and I'm sure playing with his brothers makes it all the better.

Let's hope he gets that chance in 2026 at the Olympics.

Personally there's even less reason for me to watch the tournament. I'm not invested in Team Canada, I'm more interested to see how Pettersson does. Lankanen too, but I doubt he plays.

According to Tocchet he's not that far away from playing. But would he be 100%? Probably not. Should he be playing above another US player? That's an open question.

But it's the right thing to do, the optics would be pretty bad if he played and caused further damage.

Respect to Hughes for what must have been a very difficult decision, but the right decision for the team. Hope he gets a big round of applause his first game back home from injury.

3 - keeps hughes from having to talk to jt ;)

seriously though, i award five classy naslunds out of five for this decision

There are 6 more in the AHL on NHL contracts who would have been available for this tournament, so putting together a roster shouldn't have been a problem.
I guess? Maybe for the 1st time they want to make sure each roster looks somewhat decent and don’t want guys in the A to be there.

There are 11 Slovaks in the NHL total so that most likely won’t work as well.
