Nice to see him score again, but...

His defensive game is what's really impressing me tonight. Winning defensive zone faceoffs, stripping pucks on the penalty kill and hounding the puck. His ability to steal pucks is pretty unique, similar to Stone in Ottawa. Good to see Keefe utilizing him on the penalty kill.

The Nylander line will have a good test tomorrow most likely against the Dvorak line. Looking fwd to seeing how Alex handles tomorrow's game.

Edit- Wrong Nylander. Should be in the Alexander Nylander thread.

Nylander to Kapanen. Something tells me we'll be hearing that for a very long time. ;)

Why don't they at least play him a game or 2 in the NHL!? Dude seems clearly ready

they don't want to do any "game or two" thing, once he's up they want him up for good.

they either want to make sure he's ready, or they want to keep him down so he can't get 40 games this year(extends his RFA a year)

Can't see either being allowed to play in the WJC.

At this point, I have to agree. WJC would be a massive step down all things considered, compared to the experience of playing quality minutes on a top end AHL team like the Marlies

Pretty sure WJCs take precedent over anything not NHL. Looking forward to watching Nylander there.

Pretty sure the Leafs will have the final say, and I wouldn't be surprised if they called both of them up for a day or two during the WJCs and then send them down to the Marlies (sort of like what the Caps did with Burakovsky). Lou is going to do what's best for the org

Even with Larkin in the NHL now, Nylander will be better shortly, same with Marner
I mean it's fine to be confident in your prospects and all, but to act as if it's probable that not one but two center prospects from the same organization are going to be better than a player who is one of the Calder frontrunners and who has the best +/- in the NHL as a rookie... lol, just wow

Apparently they want to avoid sending prospects back and forth, so when he comes up he'll likely be staying.

Dubas mentioned a while ago that he mishandled Percy last year and they don't want to repeat it.

Huh? Wouldn't he gain more playing against AHL guys than young juniors?
Don't tell me missing 3 weeks of AHL games for an international tournament against the best of your age group is going to hamper his development. If anything it would be good experience for Nylander.

Interesting how +/- went from (rightly) being a garbage stat on HF when Ovechkin was -82, to now everyone referencing it when a Red Wing player is doing well in it.

Making a note that Justah Faulifin is a +/- believer.
