Another goal today, 32 points in 37 games with a bit more time to go. He's the Marlies' best player now. 14 goals too.

His off the puck game has been fantastic as well.

Nylander wins a lot of board battles by just being aggressive with his stick. He's also using his body a lot more. He's just so sneaky and aggressive when he's fighting for pucks along the corner boards and behind the net.

Another goal for William Nylander. This is not a recording.

Does anyone think the Marlies could've made this crazy run to the playoffs if Nylander wasn't there?

Excellent post draft year for William. Making a strong case for having the best post-draft season amongst the 2014 draftees, aside from Ekblad.

52 points in 58 games playing against men this season (AHL + SHL). Hopefully he keeps it up during the upcoming playoffs

Should he play in the NHL next year boys? What do we think?

I just realized thank goodness Nylander isn't on the NY Islanders...you see cause his last name sounds...exactly like...ok please continue.

It's a toughie. On one hand, the team is going to be awful, the situation is going to be toxic, do we really want to put our best prospect in that situation? But on the other hand, he may be so good at training camp that sending him down could send the wrong message, plus other teams that have been bottom feeders have had their top prospects playing and they've turned out fine.

In the the end, give him the nine games, see how he looks, if he isn't 100% ready, send him down and if he is 100% ready, then I guess keep him up and hope that the situation isn't too bad.

I would keep him down in the AHL for the entire year and avoid the toxic rebuild environment on the main roster. Oilers did a similar thing with Eberle and it paid off pretty well.

Nylander, Marner or whoever they draft should make their NHL debuts together in the 2016/17 season.

Agreed on the last line. Marner isn't ready for the NHL next year and would likely be helpful if were to lead the London Knight again while playing the center position. He would have to gain strength as well.

Yeah could go the Monahan route as opposed to the other prospects that needed more time seasoning.

It depends on a lot of factors, of course. If he looks great in training camp and we can put him a position to succeed, then we should let him have a spot. But I just can't see us being able to offer that. Either he'll get to play on the top line with our established good players, with the drawbacks that brings, or we shelter him on a line with more limited linemates, which is not ideal either.

The likely scenario is that he deserves a spot out of training camp and we give him a good spot for some 7-8 games. Unless he runs away with it, he'll go back down knowing what he needs to improve over the coming year.

It was so freaking clear eons ago that he is way better than Mantha. 1.5 years younger. Much more productive. Oozes skill.

So true, but the hype factor was so huge for Anthony Mantha (33 points in 62 games). Another prospect that received a lot of hype when William Nylander (32 points in 37 games) was getting ripped apart earlier in the season by fans was Kevin Fiala (20 points in 33 games). I wonder if those same fans would still take Fiala over Nylander today?

Beautiful shot.

But if you're going to acknowledge the nice play, don't ignore the bad one. Loses coverage on his man around 3:20 which directly leads to a goal.

Overall, looking great.

I didn't watch any of it. Just skipped to where he scored haha.

Nylander was covering for a D man who got caught up ice. I wouldn't call it losing coverage on his man because he was right there. To me it seems he's very much out of his element defending in front of his net, but the effort was there. He'll eventually learn how to handle those situations with more time and experience.

I think I would be more concerned if Nylander didn't show the hockey IQ to come back and cover for a teammate who was caught out of position. At least he's not floating around in the offense zone nowhere near the puck or play.

That's how I see it.

The 2014 draft was such a weak draft after the top 5. I'm sure Leafs fans are as deflated as us Jets fans about having to pick one of the scrubs outside of the top 5 players.

Reinhart, Bennett, Ehlers, Sanheim, DeAngelo to name a few have all been more impressive post-draft and look to be more valuable pieces to their teams than Nylander, going forward.

Nylander has looked good in the A but it doesn't necessarily mean he will have a bigger impact than everyone in the draft but Ekblad. You haven't even seen most of the higher end prospects play outside of Juniors yet so to make that assumption is blind homerism.

how can you honestly say with a straight face that DeAngelo, Reinhart, Ehlers will be more valuable pieces than Nylander going forward. Based on what? You're just making subjective comments.

He wasn't covering for a dman, that was his man. He plays the point on the powerplay. I agree its a position where defensively he doesn't have much experience in, but that was definitely his mistake on the shorthanded goal, we can't sugarcoat it. He needs to close the gap on the open man if that play happened again or at least communicate better with his d partner.
