I can't wait for him to play in the NHL. Other than Ekblad, Nylander will be the best player from the draft.

Teams like Vancouver, Carolina, Islanders and Sabres will regret passing on him.

Reinhart, Bennett, Ehlers, Sanheim, DeAngelo to name a few have all been more impressive post-draft and look to be more valuable pieces to their teams than Nylander, going forward.

Nylander has looked good in the A but it doesn't necessarily mean he will have a bigger impact than everyone in the draft but Ekblad. You haven't even seen most of the higher end prospects play outside of Juniors yet so to make that assumption is blind homerism.

Yeah, ALL of them have been better than Nylander.

What a joke.

It's not like Nylander was ppg in the SHL and is almost ppg in the A, while leading his team to the playoffs as soon as he came there. Oh yeah, being good in junior leagues is also much better than being good in a men's league. :sarcasm:

The fact that you even mention Sanheim as being a better prospect than Nylander right now, let alone the future is blind homerism...are you just picking random prospects to toss in there or something? If your talking about value to a franchise going forward than Nylander is one of the top guys on any list, Scouts said from the start he was one of the furthest from making a impact and hes already had one of the best post drafts of any player drafted that year.

Putting up numbers in junior league do mean as much as actually preforming at senior level, so many that have done that that have become medicore players as seniors.

Rob Schremp did score 145p in 57 games in OHL as a junior, now in his prime, he is a decent player in SHL but not much more, same league that Nylander as a 18 yrs old domianted in.

AHL > Juniors

Playing against men > Playing against boys

Honestly, you just see the flashy numbers in junior and you assume all of that just translates into the NHL :shakehead

Nylander's play in the SHL for an 18 year old has been elite. Nylander's play in the AHL for an 18 year old has been elite.

How much do you want to bet if he did play in the OHL that his numbers would be elite as well. It's not even up for debate.

How has Bennet had a better post draft? He was injured most of the year. A handful of OHL games and getting into a couple NHL games automatically makes his year better? Lol. It's a bit of a weird argument to say the guys that have been playing junior all year have had "better" seasons because they are above a PPG in junior but unproven against professional men...but they are more impressive because we don't know what they would do in the AHL, while we know Nylander is doing very well

I don't agree with the "Nylander will be the best outside of Ekblad" comments, but you seem to be making the assumption that these players would do well or better in the AHL based on their Junior stats...kind of a silly comment blinded by something. I have never seen this argument before, or the amount of discrediting of first the SHL earlier in the year and then the AHL as I have in Nylander's threads. You seem to be discounting just how well his play or at least production has been at the professional level.

Nylander has been a huge factor is dragging that Marlies team out of last place and into a playoff spot. Never thought he'd have that kind of impact at 18 years old. That is just special.

That to me is more significant than any junior accomplishment.

Nylander will be fine... I remember wanting the Canucks to take him with the 6th overall but seeing how awesome Horvat has been playing all year and in the playoffs, i'm happy with that pick...

still.. Nylander has top line potential for sure

different draft

for god sake, can we stop comparing teenagers. all teams did well in the draft, move on people

Having the team one cheers for "win" the draft seems to be a key component to the personal happiness of many posters across HFboards.

Isn't strange that some need to dump on other prospects to glorify their own player. I'm a leafs fan, and i don't feel the need to even talk about other teams' draftees. nylander is obviously doing well, but others are doing great too. enough with this childish talk

The Leafs seemingly have a nice young player in Nylander. I hope next year in the AHL he is given 60ish games to learn centre in the AHL, and then maybe bring him up after the TDL. I'd have Brown as his RW in the AHL next year full time.

None of those players have had more impressive Draft+1 years than Nylander, the only one you could argue is Ehlers.

If Nylander were playing for the OHL team that drafted him he would have been right there with McDavid, Marner, Strome for Scoring lead, or higher considering he's a year older.

You keep repeating the same thing over and over as if you think it makes it more likely Nylander will stay in the AHL next season

And yet it still trumps crapping on other teams prospects of comparing Nylander to them. ;)

Still think he can learn a bit more in the AHL, such as playing centre.

I'd hope they at least consider this as it would be nice to have a centre with talent like him.

I don't really do that, I only defend Nylander when others do. Nylander also doesn't HAVE to learn Centre in the AHL, we don't even know who our coach will be. Contrary to belief you can develop in the NHL, even on a bad team.

what have they done exactly?

Not you specifically. Just this thread has been inconsistent on talk of the actual player.
