Tyler Seguin NHL Player Comparisons

Since Hall has a thread like this, I figured I'd make one for Seguin. I've heard all sorts of names thrown around, but I'll stick to the ones that seem a little less out there.

Toews, Stamkos, etc. Can anyone make a better comparison, considering how young both those guys are?

You forgot the sarcasm smiley. I think Yzerman would be an absolutely best case scenario. As I mentioned, I'm looking for something a little more realistic.

I'm throwing the Steve Yzerman comparison out more in terms of how the two play the game and each players strengths. This isnt to say Seguin will ever become as good as Yzerman was but they play the game very similarly.

I've seen Seguin play around 15-20 times and I almost always walk away from the game thinking Paval Datsyuk. People use his lack of PK time against him but if they watched a game they would know that Plymouth has many capable PKers and the same can't be said for top end offensive talent so it makes sense to keep Seguin rested for powerplays. I think he has a few Selke nominations in his future. He's very good defensively and like Datysuk he's very good at stripping players of the puck and keeping possession. He's also an insanely good dangler...the things he can do at top speed just leave you in awe. In a few years people will be making polls asking who is the better dangler between Seguin and Datsyuk.

Seguin won't be a mirror image of Datsyuk but I also think he's capable of being a 30 goal/65 assist player.

:vhappy:

I haven't been this excited about an entry draft since '97....hopefully this draft turns out better for Boston.

Slightly smaller, but I think his production and defensive ability will be closest to him. Stasny would be a good comparison too.

What I cam here to say. From the times I have seen him, he has been very Stastny like in his play. I predict him to be better then Stastny offensively, but very similar players.

After the Bruins landed the 2nd pick in the draft, here is what Chiarelli said about Seguin...

We’re going to get a Taylor Hall or a Tyler Seguin, and they’re both very good offensive forwards," said Chiarelli. "Seguin is a right-shot center and can play both wings. I’ve seen him play both wings. He’s got a terrific wrist shot and a terrific release. He’s got dynamic speed and play-making ability. I’ve said before that he’s a cross between a Stamkos and a Lafontaine, and I realize that’s pretty lofty company. But he’s a terrific young offensive player.

I thought this to be an interesting perspective because he's one of two teams with a chance at drafting him.

What did he say about Hall?

What did he say about Hall?

Hall, on the other hand, “plays a more prototypical power forward type of game,†Chiarelli said. “Can play both sides, good one-timer, really likes to drive the net, protects the puck well, cycles well. He’s got multi-dimensional speed.â€

Chiarelli compared Hall’s style of play to that of Calgary’s Jarome Iginla

Probably an Evgeni Malkin with a right hand shot, so I'd have to say, maybe Steven Stamkos since hes a good all around player
