He is great in this one aspect.
I know every team has cap issues and mistakes they regret but man o man that Eriksson contract is a killer. Two more years after this one of a borderline 4th liner making $6 million a year. Not to mention the Beagle and Sutter contracts eating up another $7 million combined, Beagles for two more years and Sutter one more year.

Just killed the possibility of taking advtg of cap space of Pettersson and Hughes ELC contracts :(

Hopefully Benning and team learn from these mistakes and by the time guys like Podz, Hoglander and Madden are on their ELCs we can take advtg of the cap space with guys lighting it up

So in 2 more years a combined $13M is off the books, just as Podz, Hogz, and Madz are on their ELCs, likely with their rookie seasons already completed? All around the time when Pettersson, Hughes, and Boeser will have or need new (long term) deals? Why exactly are you complaining? You think a team lead by rookies and sophomores would win now with $13M for 3 top penalty killers and whatever else we could get without those contracts?

You saying the team is better with Eriksson Beagle and Sutter than spending $13 million on something proper?

I'll take this team exactly as it is built. No changes. They are ahead of where anyone thought they would be. They are deep and balanced. Yes, it will coast a 1st to get rid of Eriksson. That will suck, but not crater the franchise or close our competitive window. Motte, Sutter and Beagle are as good a 4th line as any in the league. They are expensive but worth it.

If only anyone could have predicted those contracts would constrain the team....(like 75% of HFboarders did).

And don't worry. Benning is definitely not learning. He just signed Myers to a 6 million X 5 years contract. He can't help it.

Tyler Madden probably projects similarly to Gaudette. I don't think it's a crippling loss for Toffoli, but again, they probably can't afford to keep Toffoli.

Get outta here with this Benning slander, I will not have it. This is a TYLER MADDEN thread.

Good prospect.

great prospect and he trended upwards towards a "should have been a 1st rounder" level prospect after last season.

will be missed for sure wish we didn't make this trade. Best of Luck Tyler. L.A is a nice city, nice girls. (mod)

Really enjoyed watching him at the Bean Pot and previously at the U20's. Well done to the Kings on acquiring his rights.

(And as a caveat to Vancouver fans, at least your scouting dept. can turn up quality prospects like Gaudette and Madden outside of the first two rounds.)

Sad to see him go, especially for a rental. If we can re-sign TT then I’ll feel differently but for now sad that we’re losing a kid that’s projecting really well with great bloodlines. He became the 1C as a Freshman at Northeastern, that speaks volumes. He was our 3-4th best prospect before the trade.

Yes, sucks to lose him for possibly a rental, I love his competitiveness, but its also true that he will probably not unseat Gaudette as 3C, his weight being a major hurdle.

...seeing how J.Hughes was being overwhelmed this year while listed generously at 170, Madden is probably 15-20 lbs lighter.

Good luck in L.A. system, where he can be sheltered by LA's larger forwards.
