So Kingston sat out the whole top line tonight including Bennett. Was hoping to see how he did against Oshawa but will wait to see the next game he is in.

11 goals and 10 assists for 21 pts in 9 games. WOW!!!

Not the whole top line, just Bennett and Crouse. Spencer Watson played.

I don't really understand the decision. Crouse, I kind of get. He's played a lot of games this year between the OHL regular season and the World Juniors for Canada. So giving him a night off isn't too bad. But Bennett? He's coming off a layoff of about 6 months. He needs to be playing.

It's one thing to limit Bennett's minutes -- less PK time, less ES time. It's another to sit him completely.

Were they scared due to 3 games in 3 nights? I don't know how common those are in junior; maybe cautious they don't get hurt on a back to back to back

Teams play 3 games in 3 nights quite a few times in the regular season. Sometimes it's 3 games in 2 and a half days because the Sunday game sometimes starts at 1 pm.

It was just a rest day, for whatever reason. Captain Roland McKeown was also a scratch tonight.

I don't really understand the decision.

Simple - Win or lose, this game doesn't affect their seeding. Further, it's the 3rd game in 3 nights and Oshawa is an elite team so it could be good experience for other guys to get more opportunity, especially guys who have been pushed out of the lineup with the return of Sam and Friends.

Bennett's coming off of no hockey for the past 6 months. He's played 9 games this season. You don't rest a guy who actually needs game action to get back into the swing of things.

Like I said, I understood sitting Crouse and McKeown. But Bennett needs the game action. You could always limit his minutes. You don't need to scratch him.

no player "needs" three games in three days. It's fine that they sat him.

Maybe its just precautionary to check up on his shoulder? Or to make sure they don't cause unnecessary strain?

Or it's because Kingston is 6 points behind Niagra and 10 up on Belleville.

They're locked into the #7 spot no matter what, might as well rest the guys.

I certainly hope that Bennett and Crouse play in the Frontenacs next game against Oshawa, as I am taking the afternoon off of work on Friday to drive down to Kingston and see them play in particular.

I expect Oshawa to be playing all their regulars since there are neck-and-neck with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for home ice advantage thru the entire OHL playoffs. SSM can't be happy about Kingston resting their top players in last night's game, nor can the Oshawa fans who missed out on seeing Bennett and Crouse and ended up witnessing a 9-1 blowout that was effectively over after 11 minutes of play.

Bennett has to get some game time in. As Sidney said, he's only played 9 games all year. As good as he's been so far, his timing should get even better with more game time.

I don't mind Bennett getting the soft touch treatment since the surgery. He's the kind of guy who would run himself into the ground while telling you he's fine and never slowing down. I think the most important thing for this season is for Bennett to finish it confident and healthy. I can't see one game affecting his career arc very much.

Bennett was named OHL Player of the Week.

Monday March 16, 2015

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Calgary Flames prospect Sam Bennett is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 15 after leading the league with 10 points in three games scoring six goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-4.

Link here.

Bennett has a lot more offensive upside than Horvat.

But will be interesting to watch our young centres go head to head for sure.

Agreed, which is why I said that if Horvat can do it, with the type of player Bennett is, he certainly should have no problem starting at centre ice.

Such an exciting player to watch.

This is why, leading up to the draft, it always puzzled me when some people on HF would describe Bennett as some sort of "safe, but not as offensively dynamic" player compared to the other forwards drafted around him.

Bennett is a dynamic player. He has just as much offensive upside as anyone else in that draft. Yet he was talked about as though he was a safe pick who has limited upside.

It would not surprise me if Bennett ended up producing similar to a guy like Tyler Seguin. Maybe not quite the sniping ability, but a guy capable of 30 goals, 80 points, in his prime years.

I'm pretty sure playing 35 minutes a night is inflating his stats a bit here.

First, it's not very unusual for jr players to play that many minutes (and Bennett isn't actually playing that many regularly). Secondly, it's a testament to his conditioning that he can play that many minutes a night at such a high level.

Its hilarious that someone would try and twist it into a negative.

He's just venting his anger and trying to reassure himself that picking Leon at 3 over Sam was a good decision. I did that to numb the pain from the forsberg erat trade

Haha what the heck? Did you copy and paste a part of a personal email as part of your post above?

I'm pretty sure most top junior prospects play that.

I'm pretty sure you haven't watched a single Kingston game this year if you think he's playing 35 minutes a night.

Hahaha, so which one is it?

"Most top junior players do," or "He doesn't play 35 minutes a night," or "it's not unusual, but he's likely not playing that much, but it's also a testament to his conditioning levels that he's probably not, maybe, playing that many minutes a night."

A bit of a sensitive group here, hey? I wasn't twisting anything. I read that thread, and no one mentioned his amount of playing time. Instead, it was an ass-kissing thread, without any input towards extraneous variables that could help identify other factors for his point totals.

Also, www.chlstats.com

eTOI is 35 minutes a night.

To answer the first position of most top junior players playing that many minutes, Connor McDavid, as found on that site, plays an average of 10 minutes less a game. Most top end prospects in the OHL, outside of Robbi Fabbri and a few other names actually play around that 25-26 mark as well.

Second position regarding whether or not I watch him play: I'm taking the information directly off of that CHL stats page. Unless you can give me stats otherwise, I'm going to believe it.
