I'm aware of Matthew's birthdate.
What I'm not aware of is -- can the Sabres assign him to Rochester on/after January 1, 2024?
Or maybe the better question -- will the Sabres assign him?

The rule that they haven't challenged is that the player has to be 20 by Dec. 31st of the season in question. Once the Wild's season is over, I'm sure they will send him to Rochester but in the meantime, he's not eligible until Wenatchee's season ends.

That's unfortunate.
I was hoping the Sabres would consider sending him to Europe this season, to do what Auston Matthews did.
I realize Matthews went to Switzerland before he was drafted, but I wonder if Savoie could have gone as a draftee.
He needs to be playing against bigger and better players this season.

If nothing else, just to say FU to the CHL

My favorite play of his last night though? Early in the first, Portland broke up the ice on a 2-on-1 while shorthanded. Savoie busted his ass to get back to take the puck carrier. There was no gliding. There was no shrug from his own blueline while watching someone knock in a rebound for a guy who isn't still covered. There isn't any pretending to not see the turnover while looking for another Smart Water ad placement. Just work.

Wenatchee was down 5-1 in the third period. Savoie scored a goal, and then Geekie scored a natural hat trick to tie it with 1 minute left (Savoie assisted on 1 of those). Geekie scores his 4th in a row in OT, with an assist from Savoie to win it in OT. Super exciting. (just scoreboard watching unfortunately - should have watched it). Savoie with another 3-point night. In 9GP, he's now got 10G, 10A, 20P and +10. 2.22 points per game. Not so bad.

Thats great. Its a 2-2.25 GPG in Juniors usually translates to productive forward in the NHL. Obviosly the right place for him this year is Rochester, but since that is not possible, just have to cheer for him to dominate juniors, maybe get into the AHL playoffs.

Geekie's offensive game has really gone to the next level. A few posters were calling bust at the draft. Not that he has proven himself yet but definitely going well for him

Savoie and Geekie are men playing against boys. Could you imagine in Benson was sent back.

I was thinking the same thing. They'd be a juggernaut.

Eh, he looks like a D+2 with his size should. I wouldn't say bust - he's another player with issues with ignition. Buffalo knows all about those.

it will get sapped out of him once he comes up to the big club, just like the rest of our prospects have had it sapped from them or coached out of them

Those four minutes really helped him.

God knows they couldn’t actually try using him and see what he had. Don’t need offensive skill at all. Nope. Not at all.

Ehh, when there is a clown show in the Sabres dressing room, it's best to keep the promising ones away. Benson is an exception; he has experience working in a carnival.

Just wanted to point out that he's been held off the scoresheet only three games thus far this season. That's total - the game in Buffalo, one game in Rochester, and one in Wenatchee. He's had 10 points in his last three WHL games and it's the details off the puck that I keep being drawn too (that SH backcheck a few games back really, really stuck out as the sort of effort play that is infectious to teammates).
